As per Jon's pod cast, if you have express faith in Iowa basketball under Lickliter you either are paid to, are a relative of the coaching staff, or you believe in Unicorns.
Now I'm not saying I embrace mediocracy, I believe Lickliter's three year tenure has been pretty terrible. I think if he doesn't show anything else next year he should go. But I don't know if you can pin Tyler Smiths, Jeff Peterson, and Jake Kelly's transfer on him, all of which I think would have made a big difference in his performance.
He does deserve credit for the other transfers and poor start to recruiting. But problems with our basketball program were snow balling well before Lickliter got here. Baring no more transfers or critically injuries, I yes, do believe Lick can surprise some folks next year. We all knew this was going to be a rough year and it has been. Lickliter has went through a serious brain surgery just this year, he could have very easily pulled an Urban Meyer and used his health as an excuse to get out of this coaching position. He hasn't given up and has shown good character not blaming our facilities or our fans for any of our problems (Steve anyone?).
I do think he is on the hot seat, and deservingly, but am willing to put faith in him one more season to see if the breaks will finally go his way.
