So who believes in Unicorns?

As per Jon's pod cast, if you have express faith in Iowa basketball under Lickliter you either are paid to, are a relative of the coaching staff, or you believe in Unicorns.

Now I'm not saying I embrace mediocracy, I believe Lickliter's three year tenure has been pretty terrible. I think if he doesn't show anything else next year he should go. But I don't know if you can pin Tyler Smiths, Jeff Peterson, and Jake Kelly's transfer on him, all of which I think would have made a big difference in his performance.

He does deserve credit for the other transfers and poor start to recruiting. But problems with our basketball program were snow balling well before Lickliter got here. Baring no more transfers or critically injuries, I yes, do believe Lick can surprise some folks next year. We all knew this was going to be a rough year and it has been. Lickliter has went through a serious brain surgery just this year, he could have very easily pulled an Urban Meyer and used his health as an excuse to get out of this coaching position. He hasn't given up and has shown good character not blaming our facilities or our fans for any of our problems (Steve anyone?).

I do think he is on the hot seat, and deservingly, but am willing to put faith in him one more season to see if the breaks will finally go his way.

Your answer is found in my avatar.

Honestly, I think some people label me as a Lick Lover or whatever... Like I've said before, I don't know if his system will work. It has before (Ohio State), but Lickliter has to be keen to change/adaptation, something we haven't seen yet. He needs to get a recruiter on staff, for one.

I'd give Todd one more year, see what he can do with this incoming class and what sort of potential it brings with it.

Wish Iowa would go coach shopping now instead of waiting another year for the inevitable.

Every team in the Big Ten will be better than Iowa next year. The teams that will be worse will not slip down to Iowa's current level.

You just can't look at "if the team gets better" Have to look at "If the team gets better relitive to the Big Ten" They won't. Will finish dead last.

A new coach would probably finish next year dead last too but atleast we'll get the hire in ONE YEAR SOONER.

I normally believe fans jump on the "Fire coach" bandwagon way too early. However, I cannot believe this is one of those times. I like Coach, but I don't think he can get it done. If there was any fan enthusiasm at all, maybe he could get another year. But, the longer we go in this direction the deeper the whole we dig ourselves.

I think we will be better next year, but how much better? Our best players are not in the same league in terms of pure talent as the best players around the Big 10. Even our much improved recruiting class is nowhere near the best in the league. Most reports I have seen have it around 8th. I just have a very hard time seeing this team I am watching now improve enough to be an NIT team.

It makes me sad that I get bored watching games now. Watching the Wiscy game was like watching D2 versus D1. Luckily I had a conflict and missed the Minny game. This is the worst Iowa team I have ever seen.

As far as the transfers go, how does the Jeff Peterson transfer not fall on him? Tyler Smith was gone regardless. Jake Kelly had a personal tragedy (I know that was much of it, but I think had he been happier on the team he would have been more likely to stay), but the rest of the transfers are all on Lick. There is certainly unrest there.

I wish the best for coach. If he is here next year, I will cheer for him and be excited for every W. However, if I was Gary Barta, I would be making inquiries into who might want to coach in the Big 10 and tell Todd we need to go another direction.

So... listening to 670 the score out of chicago probably about a month ago they had callers talking about some of the dumbest arguments they have ever had..

One guy said that he was watching a movie with his girlfriend (ex now) and she mentioned something about wishing unicorns still existed today. So the argument was whether unicorns were real or not....

Must be Mrs. Lickliters ex-boyfriend?

Ok... that was harsh... but the unicorn and flying horse comment from Jon today might be the funniest thing I have heard in a long time (in regards to Iowa bb)

Lick could go +6 games next year and I'll be calling for his job. +6 would take Iowa from it's worse season ever to PAR from where Alford left it.

4 years and only going PAR is unacceptable.

That's if he goes +6. More likely to win 1 more Big Ten game than this year.
