They also shot better from the floor and better from behind the arc (by a wide margin). And they outrebounded OSU, 37-29. To pin this simply on more free throws would be pretty short-sighted.

I hear ya, but, point being, in a game where the box was virtually identical, foul / free throw discrepency was THEE difference against the Hawks.
Not excusing, just saying ... no shame in either of Iowa's 2 losses and it's good to see them matching up well and competing with decent "peer" teams. Especially considering the emphasis on rotation experimentation and getting the true frosh plenty of minutes.

I was talking about the game against OSU. I took the comment I responded to, to mean that VT was winning because of free throws. But they were beating the Cowboys in almost every way; it wasn't nearly as statistically close as the Iowa-VT game, where free throws were more pivotal.

So VT beats a ranked a team so I guess that is some kind of morale victory for us then right? Hopefully these morale victories turn into wins at some point.
The football team beat the MAC champion in the first game, perhaps we need to lay off KF and just be proud of what he accomplishes.

I long for the day we can think this.
We're a better program, but going into the season no one should have been thinking that we still aren't a rebuilding program. We are. And less than three years after Lick moral victories still count for something. I still hold onto every sign that we're an improving program like a man gasping for air.
VT beating a ranked team has nothing to do with being a moral victory for us. It just means its not a bad loss.
