So they are giving into Ohio St and changing the rules

I'm also curious what happens with Indiana-Purdue. If both teams can go next week, maybe Indiana wants that game instead of Iowa. Makes sense if you are already in a good spot for a Big Six bowl. And maybe Indiana has a little pull after getting snubbed. So then what does the Big Ten do with Iowa? They like the sound of Michigan-Iowa more than Maryland-Iowa? Or do they think Michigan-Nebraska gets more eyes?

I mean, it's bullshit and I am sick to death of OSU but it really boils down to do you want a Big Ten team in the playoffs or nah? If I am in the position to make the call, I'm making the rule change to allow OSU a chance of making the CFP.

This has clearly not been the Big Ten's finest hour, even a casual observer could tell you that. OSU has made a good faith effort to follow protocols and do everything else in their power to play the schedule that was set out for them. They are only going to get in as many games as fate will allow, they are still projected as making the CFP. I couldn't bring myself to deny them that.

If I were in that position to make the call, I'd sure be wishing it were anybody but OSU, cuz the optics are gonna be shit no matter how I wordsmith it. But it's really not about it being OSU, it's about where they sit in the CFP rankings.

Sorry but don't see the merit in your argument. Who do you want to replace OSU? They've beat every team they've played.........what more do you want them to do? Someone I've missed look better than OSU in the BIG?

It doesn't matter if someone looked better. The rule was simple. If you don't play 6 games and other teams do, you're out of the title game. Why even bother with rules if no one intends to follow them?

Disagree. They cancelled the game against Illinois. If OSU was standing at the ready to play every week and their opponents cancelled, I would absolutely say "giveth them the waiver." However, they backed out of the game against Illinois.

You know what, I think Northwestern is a complete joke, but I will rooting for them hard now. Ohio St has not earned that game relative to the rules that were set forth to start the year. Completely unfair to the other Big Ten members.

Nope, Northwestern isn't a complete joke. Fitz beat the Hawks, Huskers and Badgers. They're not a great team, but they mustered the wins they needed. And Fitz had them ready to play Minnesota. I'll always cheer for the Cats in situations where it is immaterial to Iowa. I hope they beat OSU.

I heard a comment today that the only reason to have a B1G season at all was to benefit OSU. This season was one big glorified asterisk anyway.

As for our basketball team, now they better not get screwed!

Here is the thing, does anyone actually believe the powers that be in the Big 10 would have made the same decision if the teams were reversed???

I don't. I still think they would let the 1 loss OSU go to the championship game. And that is why I think the decision was bullshit.

Ok maybe "complete" is a bit harsh. So, I will call them a joke. ;) But, we both agree here, rooting hard for them over OSU.

Agreed and if Iowa (or other teams in the Big Ten) were in the same shoes, we would be let out no doubt.

This was the right thing to do. Ohio State is clearly the best team in the Big Ten and to deny them a shot at the Big Ten would have been stupid and belittles the championship title. If I’m a Northwestern fan this is what I’d want, you don’t want a championship with a ‘yeah but’ attached to it. Now they’ve got a shot at actually winning it out right with no asterisk.

Listen, the thought of Indiana, with a back up QB, and Northwestern in the Championship Game isn't real exciting. A NW team that just lost to a lousy Michigan State team...that's been beaten twice by 40 points this season.

Yeah...let's have that as our Marquee Game.

Anyone in their right mind would want OSU in that game from a conference leadership perspective.

It could be argued both ways, but it is not fair to the rest of the league (especially Iowa) who has played all of their games if you ask me. Not even fair to Nebraska who tried to get another game on their schedule. This is all about getting them in the best position to be in the playoff.

Maybe they are scared of playing Iowa and hurting their chances....LOL. Kind of a joke there.

My food still tastes the same. Nobody is harmed here. OSU isn't adding a non-conference game. Everyone knows that OSU is the best team. Them being in the playoff means $$ for the B1G and every school in the b1G so. its ok

And I'm sure all of these points have been made already.

"Its the rules" just does not cut it. "The rules" were made on the fly anyway with out a clear idea of what might happen.

I'd be very curious to hear Iowa fan reactions if you were in the Indiana spot.

They broke the rules to benefit the marquee program in the conference. I'm old enough to remember all the Texas Ten comments on this board and find this hilarious.

So Iowa gets rewarded a championship game because the team they lost too didn't play enough games. A championship game that even if Iowa wins would always be discounted because the best team in the conference, that beat you, wasn't allowed to participate because of a rule they didn't think through. A championship that everyone would consider a joke and probably gets an astericks next to it. Yeah, sign me up for that scenario!

I get that there would be some that felt they got their toy taken away. Indiana fans probably went from "Hey we are in" to "aw hell, screw tOSU!". They haven't been in a position to win the Big Ten since 1967, so I get it. But this Hawkeye fan wants a legit Big Ten championship, not one that was watered down.

I don't see this situation anywhere close to what the Big 12 has going on with Texas. Texas does whatever the hell they want, Nebraska tried to do that here and it didn't work. Keep in mind Ohio State only has 1 vote in the conference, the majority of the other schools voted to change the rule.

Because the other schools want the payday from the playoff.

I know I'm an ISU fan, so I'll take any championship possible, but the last time Iowa had an outright championship was 1985 but I don't think anybody else wants to hand back the shared titles since then.

What more do I want them to do? I want them to follow the rules that were agreed upon at the "beginning" (midseason for everyone else) of this season. I want the B10 offices to grow a spine and actually enforce the rules that were set forth at that time. Yeah, OSU may be the best team in the B10; but if we change the rules simply to appease one party (OSU), who's to say what rules we change next?
