So not to be a negative Nancy....

Agree to disagree with you on that. I can't imagine losing 20 plus yards is something the coaches are ok with. The WUW podcast I listen to with former Hawks Those guys mentioned how BF will coach him up on getting rid of the ball and not taking those. They just about took us out of FG range and on the one he ended up missing due t the high snap. Yeah the Oline wasn't perfect (they aren't very good frankly) but Petras has to throw that ball away and not risk taking us out of FG range in those situations.
If they are trying to limit the chance for a turnover, yeah take the sack over forcing a pass or scramble while holding the ball like a loaf of bread.

The only way Iowa loses at that point is by making a turnover level mistake.

If they needed the score to win, yeah don't take the sack. Of course not.

They were full on circle the wagons. No way they want the QB forcing things.

He wasn't getting hit in the back on any of them. He saw the rush coming. He could have easily gotten rid of the ball on the plays I'm refering to. Nobody is suggesting he throw the ball wildly into coverage risking an interception. I'm saying throw it 5 feet over their heads out of bounds in the general direction of a receiver to avoid intentional grounding yet not take the sack. That is what the coaches want you to do when you're on the right side of the 50 in fg range on 3rd downs...

Lol...

Take the sack? Now you're just fucking with us...good lord.

You expect any football fan with even the most rudimentary, less-than-basic football knowledge that KF, Brian, and KOK told Stanley to give away 40 some yards for free when trying to stay in FG range, when he could have launched the ball into the stands?

Take the friggin' sack??????
Do I get taken more serious if I drop 'F' in my post?

Remember this is the fucking coaching staff that took a fucking safety so that they had an easier punt so that they could fucking ride out the fucking game on the backs of the fucking defense. For F's sake.

They did not need the FG on Saturday. They need to control field position and not turn the ball over.

If they needed the scores, then they wouldn't have been in full turtle mode in offense.

So yeah, take the fucking sack instead of turning the ball over in that situation.

You never try not to score in football unless you're up by some ridiculous score or you have a short enough clock to run it out during that drive. Never.

Throwing the ball away (which he had PLENTY of time to do both times in question) doesn't result in a turnover.

Are you going to seriously tell us that Brian told Petras to run backwards and get sacked on purpose, giving up 40 yards? I just want to be totally fucking clear on what you're saying...

You do realize that in 1993 the intentional grounding rule was changed so that as long as the QB is out of the pocket they can launch the ball 20 rows into the stands with no penalty, right? If you watch a game you'll see that a whole buncha times. You know, to avoid a sack and not lose yardage or throw a pick?

He was in the pocket.

Yes, I am saying it was a called play.... you are sometimes worse than talking to an Iowa State fan.

Since the history of the forward pass coaches have coached QBs that when all else fails take the sack instead of turning the ball over.

All I am saying is that this need to not turn the ball over in turtle mode bumps taking the sack when all else fails up the ladder in potential events.

F, it isn't that hard, stop trying to make it so.

Is Maryland really any good? The past 5 years Maryland has gotten off to good starts. Last year they started 2-1 and people starting thinking they were good after beating Minnesota and Penn State (finished 2-3), 2 years ago they ended up ranked after starting 2-0 and beating an over rated Syracuse (finished 3-9), in 2017 & 2018 they started 2-0 beating an over rated Texas to start both seasons (finished 4-8 & 5-7). They play @ Illinois on Friday night and I wouldn't be surprised to see Illinois win that game.

I don't know what Locksley's deal is, but apparently he can sell ice cream to Eskimos.

Here are their 2020 B1G recruiting rankings:

That was coming off of the DJ Durkin abomination, followed by Locksley's 3-9 inaugural season.

So basically their last 2 classes are as good as anyone's outside of OSU and Michigan. They have secured 2 5-star athletes and 6 4-star athletes across those classes. They have added a difference-making QB in Tagovailoa.

Your point about not overreacting to a hot start is a good one. We will see what these next 2 games (Illinois and then Kent St.) hold for them. That should give us a good idea what we will be getting into with a tricky Friday night road game.

I'm sure being close proximity to Washington DC metro (6 million people) and Baltimore metro (2.8 million) helps. No reason for Maryland to not get decent recruits year in and year out if you can get a coach that can sell his system.

Locksley was a good recruiter as an assistant coach and he continues to do an excellent job at Maryland. His bigger problem in the past was translating that to wins on the field. We'll see how it plays out for him

Against Iowa State, Iowa's defense and special teams were the offenses best friend. Lets not forget, Iowa's offense scored 14 points on their own in the first half while Iowa State managed 10 points. Iowa's offense had the team in the game before the defense kicked the Cyclones to the curb with their Iowa imitating uniforms.

It's easy to knock Iowa's offense but look at Indiana. They were expected to be a offensive powerhouse. Iowa State's Purdy was considered to be a head above Petras. He's expected to lead them to the B12 championship. Prior to the season based on expectations Iowa would have been ranked third offensively versus their first two opponents. Yet it was obvious that both of those teams were in real trouble. So based on that offensively Iowa is better than the two ranked teams they faced. But those offense's had to contend with Iowa's defense. And Iowa faced two stout defense in their own right. Just not the level of Iowa's defense.

Having stated the positives of Iowa's offense there are some things that need to get fixed for them to be a contender. It's easy to point a finger at Petras but take a look at the offensive line. How many sacks have they given up? 6? The running game is a must fix. As a team Iowa has a 3 yard average per running play! Goodson has 154 yards for 2 games. And 58 of those yards were on one run against Indiana. That has to change!

Yes, Petras has to get better. On the positive side, he hasn't hurt the team. The negatives we know he will work on. Iowa has a defense that is a game changer. The offense needs to get better but they aren't as broken as some think.

Iowa has two games to fine tune it's offense. The danger for Iowa is to overlook Kent State and Colorado State.
