So...Maybe We Aren't Back...But Lets Stay Excited

Just an awful showing....this is exactly what the team didn't need.

This is how Carver goes back to being half full the next few games......

Disappointing to get pounded at home but that is what happens when you don't make shots against a very very good OSU team. I'm not down at all. They are a much better team and we didn't play well. Simple as that.

We have enough talent to hang with 80% of our conference, not worried about that. We just got spanked by a better opponent today, we wore ourselves out in the first half not enough depth like O$U.

The tough road win just a couple days ago didn't help the Hawks I'm sure but hell they are a legit top ten team. Maybe a Final Four team.

We can beat every non-OSU team in this conference. OSU is just so much better than everyone in the Big Ten.

OSU is #1 seed quality. Clearly, Iowa needed their best and OSU near their worst for a W. Didn't hit shots. Of course, the OSU athletes had something to do w/ that.

This. We are better, we can win in this conference. OSU is a buzzsaw. Besides the Indiana loss, OSU has been blowing everyone out.

We just couldn't match up with their athleticism. It's hard to play in transition against a team that has NBA caliber athletes up and down their lineup. MSU is pretty athletic, but not on OSU's level ... the rest of the conference is closer to us.

The defense did everything they could to keep us in the game in the first half. They gave up some dunks, but overall did well. The offensive struggle just overwhelmed the team and the wheels fell off.

I'm still very excited about the rest of this season, and the future of Hawkeye basketball under Fran. tOSU will be a #1 seed in the tourney. You can take that to the bank. tOSU's 10th best player is better than our best player so I'm really not too upset about the loss today. It would have been closer if we hadn't shot 20% and gotten some, uh, questionable officiating throughout the game. tOSU is just damn good, and they showed why. Sullinger is a top 5 NBA draft pick. Not worried at all.

It's almost comical...

After a win... "We're back!"

After a loss... "We're not back and never were."

We lost to one of the best teams in the country and played like garbage... Yeah, we aren't going to win shooting the way we did.

This game says nothing more than "If you play like garbage... You won't beat good teams."

This one game does not make our season. We shot horribly and played poor on the defensive end.

We are way better than last year, If I was Fran I would just throw this game tape away and start talking about MSU. Forget about this game and move on.

Every team has off nights, (usually its on the road & not at home). But we just need to get back to work, we have a tough task on Tuesday night!

Exactly. You're NEVER going to win shooting 22% from the field unless the other team somehow shoots worse. We are easily better than we were last year. The two road wins in a row over NCAA tournament caliber teams shows this. We haven't had back-to-back wins like that in a LONG time. I'm still 100% behind Fran. Some posters need to take a step back and realize this was tOSU. Their entire roster is top 100 talent. They also have something like 57 straight wins against unranked teams.

There are three teams capable of beating Iowa this way OSU is one, obviously, but MSU and Illinois, yes Illinois.
The frontcourt mismatch and the athletic backcourts that all these teams have over Iowa right now lead to the potential for some ugly games. If Iowa has a more formidable frontcourt the zone is a real option to make up for the athleticism gap that Iowa has in the backcourt.
This may not be the only time Iowa gets blown out, but they will be exceptions. Seeing what I saw in the two road victories, Iowa can play with the majority of the BIG this season, it is just the unfavorable matchups that may get out of hand.

When it comes down to it, Iowa is tons better than they were last year, it is unfortunate that not everyone was playing well or healthy from the first game of the season. Today does show that Iowa has to have someone with some offensive skill to play next to Basabe that has size. I like the way McCabe plays, but he is not a full-time starter on a legit BIG team.

The next couple of years are going to be fun, watching the emergence of White and Marble, seeing Basabe become consistient with more height playing beside him.

The fact is that we tried to play our game (at least in the first half) and lost because they are better. We tried to attack the rim and they would strip the ball from us or block the shot with better players.

We tried to run and they would get back in time. We tried to shoot and most of the time they would close out on us (though we missed our share of open shots).

I don't want to them to stop playing with the edge they had in the first half because against most teams they won't have someone in there to strip the ball from them and block their shots. We'll be fine and we'll win more games as long as we keep trying to play our game.

I'd also say Indiana poses the same problem.
