So how's about we make the ISU v Iowa series an "every other year" event.

If we go to ISU and tell them 2-1 or nothign they would take it in a heartbeat.

What's amazing is that someone could actually believe something so patently stupid. Never going to happen, not in TEN million years. Its 1-1 or nothing...and if its nothing, so be it. But it will never be anything other than that. Playing every other year offers each team a nice break, and perhaps makes each particular game an even bigger event...but that's the only other option out there besides playing every year, or not at all.

I agree that it will probably never be more than a 1 for 1. But I could see Iowa demanding more share of the revenue, and I could see Iowa State agreeing. Again, Iowa State needs the revenue this series generates much much more than Iowa needs it. If ISU has to give up say 10% more of the revenue than they have in the past.... I'm sure that's still leaps and bounds better than losing the entire series.

I believe the issue of "shared gate revenue"

changes in the near future (2012 or 2013)? The contract was changed so that the home team keeps the entire gate for the game, as is usually done in OOC games among BCS level schools.

FYI, in the current set-up Iowa sends Iowa State 20% of the gate when Iowa and ISU meet in Kinnick, but ISU does not do the same when Iowa visits Ames. Instead, ISU sends Iowa 20% of the average per game ticket revenue for the whole season. And in many years the gate from the Iowa-ISU game in Ames is the largest single-game gate of the season for ISU. So before ISU fans want to get up in arms about Iowa demanding a 2-for-1 in the future (btw, I don't think Iowa will ever ask for that), let's remember that it's Iowa State that's been charging $95 for the visiting ticket allotment for the Iowa-ISU game and playing games with the % of revenue sent back Iowa's way.

Yup ISU has been taking advantage of Iowa for years...

I ALWAYS wanted Barta to say "alright ISU, here is how it's going to be or no series" and then if Pollard complains tell him "you should have thought about that when you were GOUGING are fans." It's so ridiculous to think that it costs almost 100 when we play there but their fans can buy tickets at Kinnick for much less.

I used to like ISU...now I could care less...tell them 2-1 or you can go away.

For the record, I think it's next year or 2012 when there is no more sharing of the gate. If you want to be mad at anybody for the imbalance, be mad at Bowlsby and the other administrators that signed off on such a terrible deal, not ISU.

No reason to play them at all. We dont need the money and could fill it with a team that will help out BCS standings.

Just end the series or play them all in Kinnick

Same here. Pollard is too much of a classless, clueless, two-bit creep.

2 & 1 or done.

I hold no animus toward ISU....

for the 20% of the gate revenue deal. That's the deal that was negotiated, so shame on Iowa for agreeing to it.

I do think ISU has done plenty of petty games with the % of the gate for the Iowa games in Ames that they send back to Iowa, as well as the $95 single-game price, the limiting of seating in Hilton for the Iowa-ISU wresting match a couple years ago, the billboard, etc. I get it that from ISU's standpoint there are underlying reasons for each of those actions, but I'm telling you, from the opposite end, it gives the perception of pettiness that ISU will stick it to Iowa given every chance. So don't act surprised when a good portion of Iowa fans want to tell ISU to go pound sand during the conference realignment talk and the possibility of dropping the Iowa-ISU game.

Personally, I think the game is valuable for a number of reasons. And I think it's still possible to play it with a 9-game conference schedule. But that's just me.

Exactly

The Iowa ISU game is a good instate game but I don't think it has ever had national implications. Play it every other year, put UNI in on the off year.
