So how much does this season negatively affect recruiting?

I'm a little worried that after failing to live up to our pre-season hype that some of our recruits may begin to look elsewhere. Especially kids coming from the east coast.

I really expect to see Melvin Gordon de-committing and ending up at Wisconsin, especially after his trip there to watch the OSU game.
Bielema is without a doubt the biggest d-bag coach in the big ten, but he is a heck of a recruiter.

I know a lot of my anxiety and negative outlook is due to todays debacle, but it's still on my mind.

Agreed, but do we still look as good to a 17 year old kid with stars in his eyes?

I'm really not trying to say that the sky is falling, but I think this is a legitimate concern.

The only way that you can honestly convince me that Bielema is a good recruiter is if you make the argument that he's smart enough to offer everybody that we do. We do much of his recruiting for him (as far as locating talent anyway).

Considering this is par for the course for Iowa football, especially in years when were supposed to be better then average, not alot. Then again we dont get shlt for recruits anyway.

The Pitch:

Come to Iowa, where we refuse to improve at all and refuse to inject energy into our coaching staff!

*Recruit looks at a rising Illinois, Northwestern and a Powerhouse Wisconsin*

id have to agree with the original poster of this... i think iowa's chances of landing any of the top guys just flew out the window with todays pathetic performance

Do you mean our Nationally ranked #27 power house recruiting class ???

Both Gordon and Ruddock are probably going to gain a star before long (making them both 4-stars), and we are in the running for Coe (4-star), Cyrus Kouandjio (5-star), Ejuan Price (4-star), and a few other 4-star recruits. We probably aren't losing any commits, but we certainly could have used a 10-2 record with regards to guys that still have yet to commit.

Haven't you seen him make a "W" with his thumbs and forefingers? How could anybody say no to that?

Bielema: Son, we'd like you come and play for Wisconsin.
Recruit: I don't know Coach Bielema, I need to think about it.
Bielema: (makes W with hands)
Recruit: Wow! Where do I sign???

He may not be much of an evaluator, but he does seem to get most of the kids he wants to come to Madison. Isn't that the sign of a good recruiter?

That wasn't his premise though. He was talking about guys de-committing. I don't see that happening.

I actually am worried about de-commits as well as long-term recruiting, but I didn't state it very effectively. Sorry about that.

Actually not true. We continually beat WI for recruits... much more than they beat us for them. Look through recruits that have both schools listed and I think you'll se IA winning their services more often than not.

Madison sells the recruits... not Bielema.

I'm waiting for Ruddock to decommit. Wiscy was recruiting him and when he sees a team willing to put up 83 points, why go to a team where the can't score more that 20?

Our strength and conditioning is really good.

*Shrugs*

Because he wants to be the nice guy and not pound teams that are bad?

Because he wants to lose to lesser teams because the coach refuses to change?

i think Kirk's lack of fire to go for the jugular against teams is what will ultimately cost him his job... Oh wait Barta needs him to keep having winning seasons even if they are 7-5 so he can keep his job.. so i guess we are stuck with this crap for the foreseeable future..

I too wouldnt be shocked if Iowa has at least 2 de-commits.. i see.. Ruddock being one and possibly Hamilton being the other.. I think Vincents knee injury is a God send for Iowa cause i think if that hadnt happened hed be gone too.

Oh and i completely forgot about Gordon who im sure now is getting a tingling sensation about his instate Badgers.. yeah.. check him off the list
