So basically Cowherd was right...

Serious question: How does the AD impact the wins and losses in any sport? I guess the obvious is that the AD hires only coaches who will win championships. Got an app for that?
Gary Barta has zero influence over the football program. None. His football knowledge is bupkis and he'd have zero idea what to even look for in a competent coach. Look what happened in Nebraska when they let a lawyer who knows nothing about sports hire a coach.

Barta's there to manage sports not named basketball and football, to be a puppet for the media, and to be the fall guy should there be any scandals at UI (a la Jane Meyer).

Any decisions about how the football program operates get made by Kirk and donors.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if you saw Kirk as AD at Iowa later on.

You contradicted yourself in the same paragraph.

Not sure your analysis of me (good luck with that). Iowa's O line is stood up by PSU. PSU neutralized Iowa's D line if ever so slightly which really is all the RB needed and all that Wadley would need. I don't see the contradiction.

The PSU back just didn't run over Iowa that much. He caught them flat footed a lot and took advantage of poor tackling wrap up technique.

Pls don't go the "you can't get a hand on him". The leap he had late was a perfect example. Even if you give him the leap, the 2nd guy really screwed up. Tackle him there....game over.

Were you talking about Barkley having time to run or Wadley?

Wadley only flourishes when he has a stellar offensive line. He doesn't make his own holes like a Saquon Barlkely which, along with his size, is going to cripple him in the NFL (unless he's used in the slot which won't happen because he can't block).

LeShun Daniels, on the other hand, would be putting up yards this year.

Which is why it's even more baffling as to why they aren't giving Young more carries. Unless he's hurt then I didn't hear that part.

I'd bet money that as soon as the Hawks lose another game (which shouldn't' be necessary for a change to happen) you're going to see it happen.

Too little, too late; par for the Iowa course.

I hope that comment isn't directed my way because I mentioned Daniels; for clarity I never made that assertion at all last year. The entire reason our running game worked was because of having both split the load.

I wish they'd split his time with Young, just to see if a more power style back would be effective. Butler goes down and rather than give a him some reps, it's all Wadley all the time. IKM came in a couple times but he has a similar skill set to Wadley.

Iowa sucks but when we have the stars align to giving us the easiest schedule we can win more than 6-7 games.
"Cowherd was right"??

Come on, man! You know a title like that will make everybody doubt whatever you say after that.

Didn't you feel dirty just typing it?

You should probably stick to soccer.

Wadley's inability to gain yards on the ground the past two games has nothing to do with his ability. He has NOWHERE to run because the defense knows exactly what we're going to do. Penn State's line opens up running lanes for Barkley, and they also don't obsessively run to the short side of the field so Barkley actually has some room to get outside if need be. Penn State is far less predictable than Iowa.

MSU's defense is average yet we made it look great. There's just no excuse for how bad the play calling has been the past two games. It's unfair to the defense to put everything on their shoulders when our offense has enough talent to at least be respectable.

I can autograph it for you.

First of all Wadley is not 100%, which leads me to really question the lack of playing time for Young. He has to be at least as good of blocker as Wadley and he is a punishing runner. He showed some speed as well in his only game of the season, then is banished to the bench. Wadley is not built to run more then 15 to 20 carries a game. He will be less and less effective as the carries pile up.

Iowa sucks but when we have the stars align to giving us the easiest schedule we can win more than 6-7 games. That's basically what Miller and Deace are saying in the podcast. Well mostly Deace. Jon has a business to run and always pulls his punches.
This one might earn you a delta bravo designation from Jon if you're lucky! Currently I think I'm the only member. One...is the loneliest number

Two Macro Perspectives.

1) Iowa simply isn't going to win 10 games per year consistently (or whatever). Iowa will always revert to the mean (7.5 wins per year). history has shown that. Once one accepts that historical reality, serenity ensures.

Fans should savor the 9-10-11 win seasons. They should recognize that it is very difficult to win at Iowa because of inherent recruiting disadvantages. Iowa does not pay-off big time players to come to Iowa...or at least they're not willing to pay a premium to overcome the geographic disadvantages.

2) #1 is FALSE - Iowa should not accept #1 above, Iowa should break through this middling history. The Fan is expecting the team to break through, The coaches and the players are working hard to break through - And it is maddening when iowa shoots itself in the foot. And it appears at the same time, despite signs that they are pursuing excellence, they seem also to be complacent or incompetent.
And for those who believe #1, Wisconsin thanks you and says hello. Just sayin

Agreed. This Iowa football program is a damn dumpster fire that simply will not self-extinguish. But it's cool, we'll manage Illini this week and the media will spin it so that all is fine again. What a joke. Wisconsin is so far ahead I cannot even see them with a high powered telescope. And Minnesota will be riding our bumper shortly...for 2nd place...in the B1G WEST.
