So basically Cowherd was right...

Iowa sucks but when we have the stars align to giving us the easiest schedule we can win more than 6-7 games. That's basically what Miller and Deace are saying in the podcast. Well mostly Deace. Jon has a business to run and always pulls his punches.

DERP. You sound like the biggest trolls on the planet in Colin Cowherd or Clown fans
The '15 team would maybe be undefeated with this schedule too. Then of course the negative fans on here would just say this schedule is really easy too and Penn State is over rated.

All you need to know is the Dirty 30 sound exactly like Colin Cowherd and Clown trolls. Not a good look for a real hawk fan.

I don't think this schedule is easy, nor do I think Penn State is overrated.

However, there's no way in hell the '15 team wins out with this schedule. It took a fumble on the Hawks 1 yard line to luck out against Wisconsin and we didn't play Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, or Ohio State regular season. No freaking way. I hate Cowherd with a passion only rivaled by my hate for Nebraska, but he was dead right about our schedule.

I haven't listened to their podcast yet. I dunno I think it's the ups and downs of a young QB/new OC as much as anything. The Oline isn't holding up their end of the bargain at all. Wadley as good as he is can't do it alone.

What is different is that the really gutsy offensive player in that year could pass or run. The really gutsy player this year can only run. Fewer options.

And lots of past Iowa teams (and lots of other teams every year) had equally as easy schedules and still lost games. Going undefeated is extremely hard to do.

Typically only 1 or 2 teams do it a season if that. Winning in CFB is hard to do - consistently.

We were a "good" team with an easy schedule. Most good teams lose at least 2 games with that schedule. If you replace one of our home games with a top 10 team and play it at night, we probably still win .

Two Macro Perspectives.

1) Iowa simply isn't going to win 10 games per year consistently (or whatever). Iowa will always revert to the mean (7.5 wins per year). history has shown that. Once one accepts that historical reality, serenity ensures.

Fans should savor the 9-10-11 win seasons. They should recognize that it is very difficult to win at Iowa because of inherent recruiting disadvantages. Iowa does not pay-off big time players to come to Iowa...or at least they're not willing to pay a premium to overcome the geographic disadvantages.

2) #1 is FALSE - Iowa should not accept #1 above, Iowa should break through this middling history. The Fan is expecting the team to break through, The coaches and the players are working hard to break through - And it is maddening when iowa shoots itself in the foot. And it appears at the same time, despite signs that they are pursuing excellence, they seem also to be complacent or incompetent.

Wadley only flourishes when he has a stellar offensive line. He doesn't make his own holes like a Saquon Barlkely which, along with his size, is going to cripple him in the NFL (unless he's used in the slot which won't happen because he can't block).

LeShun Daniels, on the other hand, would be putting up yards this year.

Wadley has a place in the NFL - not the same place as Barley tho. He could be a lot like a Theo Riddick or 3rd down back. Those guys are typically studs in college, like AW

I for sure don't agree. PSU's line very much stood Iowa's up and gave him time. Wadley has NO one in front of him. It is not Wadley's fault. I agree he doesn't block. If Wadley played for PSU he'd put up great numbers. No one can run through what Wadley is being asked to do. Never have teams acted like they know what Iowa is going to do more than this year. Never.

Let's assume you are right. How does a 20 year coach who is good get to the point where he has a QB who can't burn the blitz and a running back who is a flyweight?

Two things: First, last year some of the contributors on this board wanted Wadley to play every down and let Daniels languish on the bench. Now, they are whining that Wadley is not powerful enough and Daniels was the savior. Second, a couple of years from now, Iowa will still have an undefeated regular season record, Towhead will work for a radio station in Council Bluffs, and nobody will give a crap about the quality of Iowa's schedule the year they were 12-0, especially me.

It's a shame we can't aspire to be Wisconsin. They win 9-10-11 games consistently, and do it with roughly the same recruiting classes as us (rankings)

they even play a tough OOC opponent most years

And yet they are almost always in the championship game

Serious question: How does the AD impact the wins and losses in any sport? I guess the obvious is that the AD hires only coaches who will win championships. Got an app for that?

I hope that comment isn't directed my way because I mentioned Daniels; for clarity I never made that assertion at all last year. The entire reason our running game worked was because of having both split the load.
