I'm usually the positive guy in the room. I've predicted that Iowa will get double-digit wins way more times than it has actually happened. But this team and this staff are looking pretty poor to me right now. I'm thinking we beat Missouri St and upset someone in conference (Michigan St?), and that's about it. So, if I am right, after we go 2-10 this season, what happens?

I have never called for Ferentz to be fired.... if this happens, I'll be ready for a new coach.

But it ain't happening so I ain't worried!!!

I like your optimism

No doubt, with a post like that I wonder if he's excited about the start of the season. Maybe I'm out of my mind, but everyone is 0-0 at this time of year. If you can't be excited about the start of the season and are anticipating the thought of your team going 2-10 why even follow them.

Not trying to call out OP or take a shot at him, but I'm one of the fans that coem into the season with a positive outlook thinking we'll turn the corner. I just don't know if I could honestly get into something that I thought would turn out really bad (primary reason I don't play golf).

First off, Iowa will not go 2-10 this year. Second, if they did, there would be loud rumblings from the AD dpt and kf on how this can't and won't happen again with the changes that will be made. Bottom line, nothing happens. The team wins 6-7 games in 14 and all will be forgotten.

Dude, we're not going 2-10. No way. The o-line is good enough that even Greg Davis' Tecmo Bowl playbook will be sufficient to win at least 6 games. If you just started watching Iowa football at the end of last season, you might not understand this, but when Iowa is good in the trenches, it has a good ballclub, even with a marginal QB like Chandler or underclassman Stanzi. I like the directions on both lines. The team took a giant step backwards last year after the o-line suffered two key injuries against PSU, but that ball club would have looked a lot different without those injuries. The d-line isn't going to give opposing QBs 12 seconds to pass this year and the rest of the defense will look materially better as a result.

Did you forget to include your name at the bottom of the post? I almost couldn't tell it was you, brah.

to win 4 or less games requires not only low talent but really poor execution.

I think the talent is better and I am assuming the execution will be far better than last season.

Therefore, I am confident that the hawks will improve. How much you ask? i don't know.

If Iowa wins 2 games KF should be fired. That said, it won't happen, see OK4P post above as to why we win 6 games this year.

Not saying you are a "fair-weather" fan but your entire argument is the epitome of a "fair-weather" fan -- someone who doesn't even bother to follow "their team" based on the prospect that the team will be bad.

No where did the o.p. say he wasn't excited for the start of the season, nor did he say he wasn't going to support the team. He looked at the evidence, predicted a realistic, possible result (that happens to be very bad) and asked if someone would be fired based on his expected outcome. If he is truthful about usually being positive but now has a pessimistic outlook but still watches / supports / cheers for Iowa to win, that makes him a pretty strong fan, in my book.

On the other hand, while I believe you think you are a strong fan, in order for you to support your team, especially when you know they are not going to be very good, you require a healthy dose of blind hopeful optimism.

Some seasons, like the one upcoming, that means you have to partially deny reality and lie to yourself in order to stay motivated to follow the Hawks. It allows you to temper your expectations to the point that you rationalize a 5-7 or 6-6 season = "success", or, "turning a corner".

I'm not judging; just sayin' -- whatever works for ya.

During most of the day I am on a system that doesn't do anything once I press the enter key. Yeah, I'm mostly computer illiterate. But I can live with myself being dumb on computers. Do miss typing my name below, though. And you gotta admit FreedComanche is such a stud name.

Nobody will be "fired", per se. Kirk will amicably agree to step aside, with a greatly reduced and structured buyout (maybe $10 mill total over 5-10 years, or something like that). The political deftness with which Barta handles this will be seen from the outside as tremendous work on his part to get the U out from under a tremendously difficult situation (even though Barta himself created the entire problem to start with), and thus his job will be spared. The next football coach will be either Bob Diaco or Mark Stoops, who will then flip Ross P back to the Hawks on the eve of signing day, ushering in an era of good feelings leading to a B1G championship and Rose Bowl appearance in 2015.

By golly, this boy gets it.

Someone teach me how to start a post that gets a lot of attention.

Use the word "Ferentz" in the title. Spice it up by including the word "sexy". Throw in the word "coaching".
e.g.: " Why do we think Ferentz' coaching style isn't sexy?"

Now THAT gets me excited!!

You realize that one of those injured guys was a back-up, right, as in not even a starter? We are one or two injuries away from dead last in the B1G in rushing again, just like last year. The 2nd string line is littered with freshmen. On defense, we have the worst DE group in major conference football and will finish dead last in the B1G in sacks and TFL, again, just like we did last year. I do not see a lot of cause for optimism here.
