Snyder gone

With all our depth and experience at safety, and lack of it at LB, and with today's emphasis on speed and passing game, was hoping somehow we could have 3 safeties on field with a 4-2-5-type alignment.

I don't think they use the word 'mutual' the way it's meant... Snyder didn't want to leave I bet. The coaches pretty much laid out he'd probably be on 2nd team and special teams if he stayed... They have a ton of depth and younger players at the safety spots that haven't recently gotten an OWI they'd rather give longer looks to. Pretty simple. Those depth charts (especially for KF) during the spring don't mean jack squat till the week of the 1st game.

ACL injuries oft involve cartilage or meniscus damage. Once compromised it's so easy to have more damage and it's impossible to get the pain and mental aspect of knee security out of your mind.

That said From the outside, it seemed everything was on track. At last week's Big Ten Media Days, the Hawkeye depth chart revealed Snyder as a co-starter with Jake Gervase at free safety.

something happened.

Yeah, listed as a starter but wants more playing time. I don't think so.

Hmmm....

I thought it was strange how fast Synder came back in 2017. You could argue almost too fast and he should have sat out the whole season.

I have no idea, but I wonder if the coaches wanted to limit his playing time in early 2018 because he clearly had not fully recovered from his injuries, at least not enough to start over Gervase.

So once again Synder is rushing into a decision to get himself back on the field as soon as possible.

I don't disagree with that. Kirk's official story obviously isn't the whole truth.

What you agree with a snake oils salesman?

It sounds like the leadership council wanted him gone.

Well if that's the rumor I'm in no position to disprove. It does seem odd to me that this wouldn't have been settled last season though. Without something new I don't understand why it would have taken so long for this to materialize.

Tim acknowledged that Brandon has made some poor decisions, including recently, that not only tarnished Brandon’s image, but also the image of the Iowa football program. I told Tim what I knew and what was being said on social media and he said the circumstances weren't as bad the rumors that were being spread.

Whatever the case, the circumstances were bad enough to break a bond that was so strong at one time. It now seems apparent that Brandon did something recently to violate the trust of his teammates and coaches and that Iowa encouraged him to move on.

"Brandon has made some mistakes, obviously, going back to the DUI,” Tim Snyder said without being specific. “And since that point in time, Brandon has felt that he tarnished both his name and the Iowa name. And that’s been very tough for him to overcome.

“He’s never felt right after that second ACL (surgery). It’s not easy overcoming one ACL, but overcoming two and being away from your teammates and isolating yourself in a rehab and not being with your team was hard on Brandon.”

Human experience is messy.
