Snyder blows out ACL

You can usually still have some range of movement on a torn ACL. It's once you have surgery that you have to keep weight off of it in order to let it heal properly.

I read on the NFL website that ACL injuries with surgery can range from 8 weeks to 12 months rehab. I am still going to maintain faith that he will be back at least by B1G play. He has 20 weeks before the start of the season. I am optimistic.

It's possible. Canzeri was back to full health about midway through the season after his ACL injury. We'll just have to hope he recovers that quickly.

He was coming around to be a good safety. He had problems with tackling early - trying to make the highlight hit instead of just getting the guy to the ground, but became better as the season progressed. An ACL repair has become a surgery that guys can come back with almost no loss in function. It used to be a whole year, but some guys are back much sooner. However, the earliest would be October, and by then the season is at least half over, so it doesn't make much sense to put him out there early, even if he's ready.

I'm still hoping.

Here's KF's quote from Friday when asked about Snyder's return:

"I don't know that he'll be ready at any point this year. We can't count on that. If it happens, that's a bonus."

While that quote certainly sounds damning, isn't it the coaches general practice to downplay or over hype an injury? Kind of the mindset that other guys need to be ready type of thing. I'm just saying Ferentz has both understated and over stated injury status before. I will wait to relinquish my hope until more details of the injury and subsequent surgery are released. I assume you will be reporting more on this topic in the months to come?

No, Snyder is dead to me. ;)

I don't want to ruin anyone's hope, just wanted to pass along the coach's comment.

I really don't know what Snyder's recovery will be like. I haven't heard that he's had surgery yet. And recovery is different for everybody, kind of like TJ surgery in baseball. Time will tell.

One thing is for sure, that's a very important position in this defense. Very important.

Agreed, FS is the QB of our D. Snyder really came on last season and was the most established ball hawk we had returning. Gervase did not look like he was anywhere near ready. I know there is time and all, but I am pinning my hopes on a super human recovery by Snyder or the emergence of one of our incoming freshman DB's.

I think Amani Hooker will be competing with Gervase for the FS spot in Snyder's absence. Hooker reminds me a bit of Marcus Paschal, who could play both safety spots. I think Hooker might be better at SS but I don't think Taylor can play FS.

I didn't notice Hooker at all at the spring practice. Was he there?

Snyder was walking and jogging under his own weight at the spring game. Hard for me to believe he suffered a season ending ACL injury while still being able to stand walk and jog for hours, but I am not a doctor.

I scored a goal in soccer after blowing out my PCL, tearing my LCL and MCL....and obliterating my medial meniscus. After the injury, when the guys got off of me, I was kneeling. But the calf was on the ground.

If Hooker is anything like Paschal, that would be awesome. He was a good one.
