Gotta give credit where it is due. He's a player. That was a potent offense. they don't so much run routes as they run to space. I think that is what Greg Davis must have had in mind when he talked about back yard football
 
Agree helluva passer but
They were as predictable as Wash St.
This game just felt like it was well in-hand in 2nd qtr.
One more thing - I couldn’t believe the announcers didn’t say one good thing about how well our O Line played - gave up the one sack but they dominated the whole game!
 
USC does not play championship style defense. Hawk OLIne dominated in pass blocking and we ran the ball well enough. USC is fast but they lost contain and the edge many times due to not playing assignment football and I would have to watch more carefully but they just had poor footwork that let our players get an angle and speed around them.

I agree they would have a very tough time in the Big 10 the way they are right now. OSU, PSU, Mich, MSU have tough defenses as do teams in the Big 10 West that could handle USC's offense and would score on USC.
 
Slovis is very good, and he was creating problems for Iowa. But, the Dline was ramping up the pressure on him as the game wore on.
 
Who cares if the PAC12 is garbage.

USC runs the exciting non-boring throw it around everywhere offense. That’s what matters. To be entertained

Shoulder injuries for throwing athletes can be pretty devastating. The one saving-grace is that a QB relies upon timing an accuracy as much as velocity, so a QB can lose a few mph and still be successful (see Drew Brees). A pitcher with a serious shoulder injury is pretty much done.
 
He's a helluva QB. When they mentioned that he was coached in high school by Kurt Warner, it made sense. He slings it a lot like Warner did. Impressive player.

The problem is, you can't be a 1 trick pony vs a solid team like Iowa. Dline began wearing their oline down early in the 2nd quarter.
 
Slovis had Kurt Warner as his OC and QB coach in HS.

I really like Slovis. He is ballsy and has a great arm. And he can move. He will flourish with those WRs. Not sure the coaching will help much, but I wish we had him.

That's the truth. I can still every once in a while throw a snowball 60 ft and hit a telephone pole, but when it comes to really putting some heat on it or trying to throw for distance, I can't and pay for it in trying.
He's young and will heal up fine.

Agreed. That kid could start in 90% of the teams in the NCAA. He's a star.
 
Slovis threw some absolute dimes. Our coverage was good but he made some perfect throws that only his receiver could get to.
 
USC will be set at qb for the foreseeable future with either JT Daniels or Slovis. Not sure why, but they decided to go after Koerner and Belton and it was working. Would have been interesting if Slovis didn’t get hurt.
 
Slovis is incredible. He could be a 100 career TD guy.

Playing a team like USC and learning about their players, you can’t help but look at recruiting and recruiting class rankings. Point being, it’s incredible to see the former 3* recruits dominating across college football. Justin Jefferson (LSU WR) was a borderline 2-3* recruit. Another example is Isaiah Simmons (versatile defender for Clemson). He’s a freak of nature and was a 3* recruit out of the Kansas City area. As Iowa fans, we all know that 2-3* recruits can become incredibly solid college football players. But it goes beyond that. They can become the best players in college football.

A different example, USC’s RB #7 Stephen Carr was a former 5* (top 10 national) recruit. He barely impacted the Holiday Bowl. After one run, I thought he looked incredibly impressive, so I looked him up on 247. For reference, he would be Iowa’s highest ranked recruit ever.
