Slightly OT - what is everyone cooking for the Super Bowl?

Also want to add that people who discriminate against either flats or drums are communists. If you're ordering a dozen wings you better be eating 6 flats and 6 drums. This is America, Jean-Pierre. Go back to Marseille if you want to disrespect a bar cook by requesting 12 flats.

And don't get me started on these fucking savages who call chicken nuggets "boneless wings."

Yes, but then what to do about all of those boneless chickens out there. I mean, they need some love, too.

Nice. I just got back from a cruise and had a few stops on the other side of Mexico and one in Honduras. I ain't ever going back to Costa Maya or Roatan, but Cozumel is awesome. There were 4 families I met from South Carolina and too many from Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio to count. I was surprised by the lack of Minnesota people, but maybe they were embarrassed to wear Vikings or Gophers gear, or perhaps those sick fucks like the winter.

I still consider myself an Iowan, but make no mistake...getting out of 'Sota in the Winter is a priority. Hell, there was a whole airline launched around it. (Sun Country)

I like the boneless but agree, they are never to be thought of as wings.

As for the real wings, my wife likes the flat wings and I like the drums, so that works out perfect when we order twelve.

I've been favoring Asian zing type sauces lately, but always have buffalo, BBQ, and ginger curry sauces on hand as well.

Not cooking, but eating anything my great cook wife is making. One game she'll not be bugging me about watching. Been a 9er fan since John Brodie, Vick Washington, Forrest Blue, Gene Washington, Ted Kwalick and Bruce Gossett. The wife was born in SF too.

Boneless wings are the fish sticks of the poultry world. I’d hate to see what parts of the bird go into the grinder for those.

I’ve ruined my kid on the fish sticks/patties too, which is ok except they serve that shit in school so he eats salad those days...not enough gas in the tank for a 13 yo boy in my opinion. I asked him about it once and apparently there’s a “fish snob” group of buddies whose dads catch the real deal, and they won’t eat the ground up mush patties.

Good god, man, my guess is there is no hamburger night at your house. Probably no hamburger helper, either. That poor kid.

There’s no comparison. Processed fish is full of some seriously nasty filler and vegetable oil.

At least ground beef is straight up lips and assholes without the extraneous junk in it.

I’ve traveled all over hell, but I’ve never left Iowa in the winter specifically for the purpose of escaping the weather temporarily. I keep telling myself I’m putting toughness credits in the bank, so I can be a hard mother fucker when I’m 80 years old in Iowa Januarys some day.

But really I’m just dumb.

Loved Vic Washington. He was the Dave Meggett, Darren Sproles of his day. Once returned the opening kickoff for a TD in a playoff game against Dallas.

My old secretary was a Norwegian gal from Wisconsin and she doesn't have a winter coat down here. My new secretary grew up in Florida and has never been north of Tennessee other than one trip to NYC. She asked me what the temperatures were on my cruise and when I said "mid to high 70s" she told me that such temperatures are not fit for swimming. Trust me, you're plenty tough already.

You're old secretary wouldn't happen to be Amy Averkamp would it?

Just taking a wild stab. Her husband was transferred to South Carolina about six years ago as a Deere traveling engineer and may have transferred again.

I remember that.... we sure are old. This game (below) in 72, I was barely old enough to understand anything about football, the 49ers had a big lead in the playoffs and Dallas score 17 points late. My mom had a gigantic fish tank on a countertop. When Dallas went ahead, I jumped up, and accidentally pushed an antique pitcher into the fish tank. Fish...lot's of them poured out of the tank onto the floor. My mom loved her fish more than me I think. She came running in and tried to stop the pouring fish with her hands, crying away. I ran down and hid in the basement giving her time to cool off. Fish tank water began coming through the floor onto me. My biggest day of infamy.

That might have been the same day as the Franco Harris "immaculate reception". If so, what a day for playoff football.

Four houses down is a rental place that like clockwork rotates out a different Hispanic family every couple years. This last blizzard they tried to back through the end of driveway shit from the plows and buried their car. Out there with hoodies, sneakers, and no gloves trying to dig it out with a rock shovel. No idea why they were trying to drive out, the street had a foot of new snow blown in and they were going nowhere even if they got through. You could tell they thought I was some sort of black magic sorcerer tossing that stuff over the house to the backyard with the snowblower. Not expected at all, but if it’s anything like the last couple families they’ll show up at my door this spring with tamales or baleadas or something.

i duno yet, but I do know that the grocery store is packed that afternoon...not unlike Wed before thanksgiving.

Wife is going to an afternoon concert with a friend, a gal whose husband dumped her when he decided or figured out he was gay. Then they’re coming home for what she says will be shish kebabs. Told her I would only do it if in addition to steak and chicken the meat will include lamb. Marinated lamb with singed pieces of white onion on naan bread can’t be beat.

But I may do some wings while they’re gone.
