Slaton status?

People need to just get behind Montell Marion and stop worrying about Joe Slaton at this point. It is VERY VERY unlikely that you will see Joe Slaton in an Iowa singlet again...

Why can't someone inquire about slaton's status?

#4 Joey Slaton (Iowa Unattached) DEC #9 Montel Marion (Iowa) 10-5

That sure seems like good enough reason to see if Slaton would be wrestling for the Hawks this year.

Its just very strange to me that they wont give anyone anything about it. Obviously many people want to know about his status yet no one official will say anything about it. I would think they could at least give any update about what is going on or what it is they are waiting for.

Like I have been saying since early January, Slaton will not wrestle for Iowa again.

I don't mean to undermine you at all, but is that official or just your thoughts? I have seen comments everywhere saying everywhere from he is ready to go now to he never will, so I am a little hesitant to believe anything not from brands.

There are people who are close to the Slaton's who have said all along even before the semester had ended that he was good to go, which he never was. It's not "official" and I'm not sure Brands will even address the issue and I'm not going to be he one who brings it up to him.

Four people here have just said Slayton will never be back, but not one has said why, or where their "facts" come from. I also am just curious. Why can't anyone back up their "facts" with their source?

Please do not think that I think somebody is undermining me if they want more confirmation other than my word. My word certainly is not the end all be all, but I will say in this situation my "source" was as solid as could be.

I have watched Joey wrestle since he was at CR Kennedy, so I guess you could say that our family is in the corner of a Joe Slaton fan. It would be nice to hear the official information as to his status. Granted, I will cheer and "get behind" anyone in an Iowa singlet, so I hope that Marion is at the top of the podium in March.
Many want to know the status and reason why. Heard a radio interview with Tom Brands two weeks ago that said that the decision was gong to be made in the near future. I am guessing that this far into the 2nd semester, that the decision has been made that he did not do the things that he needed to do to become eligible. If that is the case, I don't think that the University has an obligation to spread the word. They are dealing with an kid's academic status, which is really none of our business.

Here are some "facts" for you that should tell you he won't be back:

1) He has wrestled unattached, but not for the University of Iowa for over a year
2) Academically the second semester has started and he hasn't seen the mat, so grades could still be an issue
3) He has beaten Marion, so don't you think Brands would put the best guy at that weight out there if he was available?

These "facts" didn't come from a source of mine but from common sense.

I kinda saw this one coming for awhile but wanted to keep my mouth shut. People need to let it go and get behind Marion. 141 is somewhat up for grabs and he has beaten 2 VERY good wrestlers and mark it down I Truely believe he is a finalist with the right draw. Mark it down I said it first!!! Humphrey will be coming to town here in about a month and we will be able to tell a lot about him by then!

indeed people knew he wasn't coming back at start of season pretty much just didn't want to believe a national runner-up would fall this quickly

marion is a monster and will progress with mat time to be a better wrestler than slaton was

Yesterday Slaton was finished. Last evening things have changed. His eligibility is getting another review from higher ups in the administration. Most feel that if fairness is considered, Slaton will be eligible in the next couple days.

I read on here yesterday that Joe was done. While disappointed, I thought this story was done. I was glad to see Joe still on the bench being with his team. I hope for his sake that he continues with his studies and comes away from Iowa with a degree, then he can move to the next phase of his life, which I am assuming will involve some kind of coaching.
