Treveon Graham, Andre Hollins to make impact in sophomore season - Luke Winn - SI.com

4. Aaron White, 6-8 PF, Iowa

Freshman points per game: 11.1
Freshman minutes per game: 23.8
Percent of team possessions used: 23.1
Offensive Efficiency Rating: 111.6
Fran McCaffery has an eye for under-the-radar talent. He was the only Big Ten coach to offer White a scholarship, and the sophomore is now a primary reason why the program is on an upward trajectory. (When asked about White's recruitment, his former coach at Strongsville [Ohio] High School, Joe Lynch, said that plenty of schools "missed the boat.") Few Big Ten big men -- in any class -- matched White's high-efficiency scoring profile, which suggests that he can thrive in a co-go-to-guy role alongside guard Devyn Marble as a sophomore. If Iowa doesn't break through to the NCAA tournament this season, it should happen for sure in 2013-14.

I seriously doubt that we have to worry about Aaron having the sophomore slump that Basabe had. White seems driven to prove to all of those schools that ignored him out of HS that they were mistaken. I think he is going to have a spectacular year.

In the past two seasons I have not considered Marble to be our go to guy in a crunch. Sure he will get hot from time to time but he needs to bring it every game. Once he does that then we can start to call him a go to guy. I hope it happens this year. He is a very good player but a shadow of what his Dad was. He needs to be consistant on both ends of the floor. I would not be one bit surprised to see by the end of the year that Gesell becomes our perimeter go to guy and Marble our midrange go to guy. Our underneath the basket go to guy has yet to emerge in my opinion. Would be great if by seasons end Woodbury has improved to the point where he becomes the go to guy but if I had to pick it would be a toss up between McCabe and White. Basebe has to show more consistency before I would put him into that group. I am hoping all the players have improved over the summer and that the freshmen can bring a lot to the table to help this team get mad again.

Really, going out on the limb and saying Devyn isn't as good as his father...newsflash, he has never been supposed to be. Keep in mind just how good his father was and there is no need to compare the two and they are both totally different players...

Also, your choice of "go-to" guys here, minus White...wow...Zach can't stay out of foul trouble and if the numbers are correct Woodbury hits about 50% of his free throws...if each of those patterns hold neither one will be in the game with less than three minutes left.

Marble is a quality player and if he can develop his outside shot more, he could have a big season. White is going to get more attention from other teams, if he works as hard as published, he won't have the major sophomore slump, but you also may not see a huge jump in his numbers, except for assists going up.

Marble didn't have to be a go-to guy because Gatens was that...now Gatens is gone and someone will have to do it and Marble has shown that he may be ready to be that now. Just because he "wasn't" doesn't mean that he "won't"...

I'm geeked for this season to get started...after the football team proves everyone wrong, that is...:D

This:D

Marble did what he had to do, even hit a couple of shots that sealed the win. He is a hard player to guard, same as Aaron. Nobody knows what they are going to do with the ball. I have a feeling we will be a nightmare for the other teams......

Devyn never seems to lose his cool. Aaron deserves all the credit he is getting......

Fran is the Duke......

Gawd I hope White is a name to remember once he leaves IC.

And yes, I'm watching American History X while I say that. It's sorta weird.

Roy Sr. could leap higher, jump quicker, and was a better finisher. Devyn could dribble circles around his dad and is a much better passer. Also, I think Dev's a better shooter. Roy was a great mid-range guy. So is Dev. By his sr year, Roy had worked hard to become serviceable from outside. Dev is better than that now and getting better. Sure, Roy Sr. was a better scorer because he could sky on the edge of the lane any time and get his shot off. Roy was a 3 who could play the 2 by his senior year. Dev can play 1, 2, or 3. We'll see if Dev can become a consistent defender. If so, he could be in the league longer than his dad was.
