Since 1983, Michigan is Iowa's second toughest place to win

Iowa has won just five times at Michigan since 1983. During that same span, only Illinois is a bigger house of horrors for the Iowa mens basketball team as Iowa has just three wins there...that includes my all time favorite Iowa game, the OT win in 1987 after Iowa rallied from being down 22 with 15:52 to play, which was the largest comeback in school history before the 23-point rally against Gardner-Webb back in November.

After these two schools, its
7 at Michigan State (just three in the Breslin center and non since 1993)
8 Indiana
10 Ohio State

Man, those IL (3 wins in Champaign since 1983) and MSU (no wins in E. Lansing since 1993) are streaks that you would more expect to see in football, where teams only play in certain road venues three times a decade sometimes. I've been following Iowa basketball since I was a youngster in 1994-95, and I recall many drubbings (e.g., Sam Okey's first game in 1999, almost any Alford team, last year's game) in East Lansing, and a little heartbreak (the Eric Snow shot is the first Iowa @ MSU game I remember seeing), but without looking I would have thought that we had snagged one win up there in the last ~20 years. Geez.

No wonder I dread Iowa-MSU games so much.

As for today's game. I'm just not optimistic. I know the Hawks will play hard, but they need to be more relaxed than they were against Indiana. I don't see that happening in their first hostile road environment of the year (and of the careers of the freshmen). They will settle down, sooner rather than later, too, I think. But playing unbeaten #2 in unfamiliar environs in the midst of a team shooting slump is not a usual recipe for a W.

If I had to pick the best candidate for a seminal road win, right now I'd say Jan. 22nd at tOSU. Still very tough and athletically problematic for us, but they shot against Illinois yesterday about how Iowa has been. Maybe a chance there.

i know Illinois generally has decent to good teams, but that is shocking to me. we've had some darn good teams over that stretch too. the curse of bruce pearl? ;)

At the time I thought we were robbed, but it appears he just got it off in time.....

I still feel the pain.....

No school hates another in the B1G as much as IL hates Iowa.

Won't forget where I was that night, my aunt/uncle's in Belle Plaine, still one of the most frustrating losses I have watched.

Thanks burky247 for making my day!
