Sid Hartman: Iowa has no RBs like Weisman

Just reading the title to this post, my assumption was that Hartman was taking this as a positive for the Hawks.

I love Sid. He has been saying all week that Iowa has played nobody and the Gophers will win, even though they are banged up. Doesn't make me love Sid any less, he is like 94 yrs old BTW, for real

if you want to know what dementia looks like, just read his stuff.

Wadley or Canzeri would have rushed for 400 those games.
Then why didn't Canzeri? He was on those teams. Oh wait, that's right. He was hurt. Again.

Nobody confuses Weisman with Barry Sanders, I get that. But he was durable for how much punishment he took, and 2600 yards, 32 TD in 3 seasons deserves more respect than he gets on here.

I am grateful for the effort Weisman put out as a Hawkeye. Hate to think what is would have been without him on the team.

i am hoping our running backs have a great game tomorrow and I hope we win. This is Minnesota's bowl game and they would love to bring us down. I will be happy for a win of any kind tomorrow. GO Hawkeyes!!!

Hartman is a once iconic sports writer in Minneapolis, but he's way past senility. The former Minneapolis major was named R.T. Rybak...Sid called him Archie Rybak for most of his term.

The guy did make an interesting number of connections over the years...that seems to be his forte. He's a name dropper. Probably favors MW due to his last name...you can make the connection. And no, I'm not kidding.

But his take on things over the years has been a huge miss as often as it's been on point Other Minnesota sports media chuckle behind his back...some on the air.

Seconded. Last year especially, the coaches tried to put more explosive backs in the backfield to save Weisman for what he does best (short yardage). But everyone else either got hurt, fumbled at an egregious rate, or was simply unproductive.

For what it is worth, I have also spoken to a member of the current backfield, and it is obvious he has tremendous respect for what Weisman did here and who he is as a person.

You missed the point. Our oline dominated them so bad, Weisman had huge holes to run through. They say Weisman carved them up? Our oline carved them up. A faster back would have turned all of Weisman's 20 and 30 yard runs into touchdowns. This isn't a bash on Weisman. It's pointing out an obvious fact that when you constantly have huge holes to run through, a faster back would be more productive than a slower, more powerful back.

Weisman is a good, hard nosed football player. So is Drew Ott. I don't want either of them as my feature RB. And that's no offense to either of them.

I listened to a Minny podcast today (Derek Young from Iowa Scout.com was on) and I'll tell ya, either they know something the rest of reality doesn't or they are the most delusionally hate-filled rodents I've ever heard. They kept saying Iowa hasn't played anything this year. Right.

I remember reading him as a kid in the 70's delivering the Strib. He was terrible then. Now he makes Bob Brooks look young.

The best thing that happened to Iowa's running game is KF saying **** no, I don't know anything about offense (except the offensive line), and handing that responsibility over to someone who's qualified. Heck, he even handed the offensive line over to Brian.

Bet your bottom dollar if someone other than KF were calling the offensive shots, some of these 'injured' running backs from previous seasons would've seen action sooner and/or more often.
