SIAR: Ferentz on the "hot seat"?

I am not giving KF a pass this year, nobody should he gets paid a ton of money. I expect a 5 win streak at the start and no less than 7 wins for the season. I am tired of Iowa losing to teams they should easily beat (ie ISU, Minnesota, ect). If Iowa stumbles in one of those easy games they very well could finish with a losing record. While a head coaching change will probably not happen, KF will put himself on the hot seat if Iowa turns in a 5-7 season (maybe even 6-6).

I think 2009 was a little more than a "decent year"

Not only that, but I really don't think 2008 was a "below expectations" season, either. Not really sure how expectations/results for 2007 compared; I just don't remember what the expectations were.

Last year on Independence Day, KF allowed KOK to light three snakes and two sparklers, and that was it.

I wonder if the new OC (Davis?) was given the go-ahead to light off bottle rockets and witch whistles other sorts of fun fireworks today?

My guess...nope.

I would like it if ferentz was gone. I was a pretty big fan until he reorganized his staff to make room for his sons job on the offensive line for $500,000 a year. Thats pretty offensive to me. ferentz will never make Iowa great in football anyway. I think Fran might be on the way in basketball though.
BF makes somewhere in the lower to mid 200k range if I remember correctly. BF might turn out to be a very good coach for us, and the reorganization may turn out positive as well. Would you have rather they hired some mercenary coach with no particular loyalty or love for Iowa?

You mean like Erik Campbell?
Yeah, he's done nothing for the Hawkeyes, 'cause he's a Michigan homer.

Last year's football team had a better winning percentage than the basketball team, yet people are dogging the football coach and want to build temples in praise of the basketball coach.

Yeah, that's like, totally what I meant. I said, "love for Iowa", did I not? And Soup must love it here, cuz he sure coulda left by now if he wanted to! But seriously, I do believe it helps a little to get someone with a connection, when possible.

I know what you meant, Mose, but I think it is a thin defense of nepotism.
Brian Ferentz should rightfully be under intense scrutiny since daddy hired him to coach. The kid is making a ton of money and has relatively little experience.

Ah, I'm only trying to fool myself. The truth is, Brian could screw up royally, burn down Kinnick, and wear a Wisconsin hat to Thanksgiving dinner, and daddy would never fire him.

How the fk did the football program of my Alma Mater turn in to Ferentz & Sons, LLC???

Instead of BF they should have hired an NFL position coach. A young up-and-comer that coached his players to some NFL records or something and also comes from a team with a recent history of winning and quality coaching.
But then again, to get that kind of guy would be hard for a program like Iowa.

Don't be a wiseacre. If Brian Ferentz wasn't who he is, daddy would have never hired him. But don't take my word for it; look at Kerk's hiring record.

If KF hired a non-family member with BF's resume' everyone on here would be praising it as a great hire. Fact.

Yes, that is also a fact.

Actually, the entire board would not be praising the hire, but a vast majority would. And the people decrying the hire would only do so because they assume a young hot-shot coach like a guy with this resume' would not be here for the long haul and see Iowa as just a stepping stone.

And the proposed national sales tax is actually progressive, not regressive. That is also a fact. And I bet Lyddea or GoHawks won't stalk me to this thread and post funny little pictures, which no logical argument. But the pictures are cute.

I can definitely see how this thing could go bad. If BF is not the coach we hope he is, things will get a bit difficult for Kirk in more ways than one.

My opinion is rock solid, but just for the sake of discussion, what is it about brian ferentz's resume that you find so impressive?
Are you really giving him credit for Rob Gronkowski's performance last season (and the previous seasons)? Do you think Gronk will slump this coming season, without brian ferentz there to 'coach him up'?
