JonDMiller posted this year's version of whether Kirk Ferentz is on the "hot seat," as suggested by a writer at The College Football Matrix.
Iowa Football: Ferentz on 'Hot Seat'? Don't Buy It | Hawkeye Nation
In the 2 Star class, he lists Kirk Ferentz, among others, saying: “I was waffling in grading KF a One Star or Two Star Coach. He is the Midwest version of Jeff Teford. Chronic under performer with 4 of the last 5 years under predictions as a negative game coach. But tucked in those 5 was one decent year. Like Uncle Rico, most fans of mid-level talented teams love to live in the past. The 10-11 win season, the BCS bowl, the huge conference championship. The bottom line is the next bad season may be his last. The public is not against him but 6 and 7 win seasons are acceptable for only so long, especially when your fan base is as crazy nuts loyal as the Hawkeyes...â€
(major snip)
...While there would certainly be grumbling from some corners of the fanbase, I just don’t see Ferentz as being on any sort of ‘hot seat’. I think Iowa is another or so away from getting things back to the point where they can be a legitimate contender for the Legends Division as there is a great deal of young talent in the program.
What are your thoughts?
While a 7-5 record -- as many are suggesting for this season -- would be viewed as a disappointment, it also would not be a surprise, in my opinion. I really expect that it will take at least a year for the fairly significant -- by Iowa standards, at least -- changes in the coaching staff to settle out and for Ferentz to really realize what he has and any tweaks he might need to make.
Further, I would expect this to be something of a growing year for the young talent on the team, with the 2013 and 2014 seasons likely being really special.
