SI story on tOSU now up

USC lost 15 scholarships for 3 years. I'm guessing OSU loses 10 for 2.

Alabama lost 21 schollies over 3 years, vacated wins, and had a two year bowl ban and did not have a LOIC charge. This is what I see happening to osu. Unless more stuff comes out and that dreaded LOIC accompanies the charges. Then all bets are off.

I thought the NCAA decided NEVER to use the death penalty again? It set SMU back 25 years and we all know the hands (literally) feeding (and paying) OSU athletes won't allow that to happen.

Mean Gene Smith has to go too, end of story. He forced The Vest out, once all the details come to light he won't survive either.

Columbus Burning (sequel to Mississippi Burning)

This time Gene Hackman is called upon by the NCAA to bring his entourage to Columbus, OH to find the truth behind the untouchable tOSU operation. Who are the supporters, who's getting paid, who are these local characters being associated with the program, and most importantly where can I get a good FBI tattoo and a 40% discount on a new Escalade.

Can someone explain to me why people cry over SMU's fate?

The death penalty didn't set SMU back 25 years. First of all, they never would have been at that status without cheating in the first place. It's not like they had osu's tradition or resources and just couldn't bounce back from a year off the field.

The embarrassment that the university suffered caused what you could describe as an apathy within the administration to field a quality team. Had they wanted to, SMU could have bounced back much earlier. But it was no longer a priority for the university.

This will definitely set the Buckeyes back a couple of years. OSU is still an elite job in the world of college football. But it will be difficult to attract a big-name coach in the immediate future.

Disappointing to see this happen. I looked at Tressel as a coach who did things the right way so it is unfortunate to see he let this spiral out of control. It will be nice to see other programs get on a more even playing ground with the Bucks (since they have owned the league the past few years), but it is still a dark eye for the Big 10. The Bucks did represent the Big 10 well the past few years and help re-establish the Big 10 as a power conference. The interim coach will get his shot in 2011 but I highly doubt that coach will keep the position. Buck fans will press for a bigger name or someone with higher credentials.

OSU won the conference 4 times in 15 before Tressel showed up. People are acting like they were always some monster program. Seriuously people you are overestimating OSU.

Considering that Tressel has been doing nothing but breaking the rules for 8 years, setting them back only 'a couple of years' would be nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

Gotta love this one, too:

"(Tressel and Isaac) text-messaged psalms back and forth, according to Isaac, who says the coach taught him his most important life lessons."

Ol' Sweater Vest has been preaching all kinds of hypocrisy over the years.

That story doesn't even get to the DMV issue. Still just the tip of the iceberg.

^^this^^

Jerseys for tats....on the surface...OK...minor violation. Yawn.
Now, autos for players....now it gets juicy.

What else is going to surface? Point shaving, recruiting violations, bribes, drugs? Who can say....but what can be said...there will be more...much more, before this is all exposed for what it is.

Ironic moment: Pay the kids a stipend and they aren't out hawking jersey's for tats.

But even with a stipend, these kids would have likely still sold or traded their jerseys for something. A stipend would be justifiable if they needed to pay for actual living expenses. They get nearly a complete wardrobe of free gear, free tuition, and free room and board. Plus, sleeve tattoos would be more expensive than any stipend would cover anyway. Living off campus and having a car are not necessities at most major universities.

I do agree that the car questions will be where the major violations show up if found to be true. I think the penalty will be more than what USC received, due to more than 1 player being involved and the head coach lying to the NCAA rather than an assistant. Closer to what Pearl did at Tennessee than what happened at USC.

The only reason the focus is on Tats is because the money laundering operation was in a tattoo parlor. This is about way more then Tats. Seriously, these types of kids would still be doing it even with a stipend.

How about raise the entrance requirements so that real college students are playing college football. Start a paid developmental system for the athletes who have no business being in college. Let each NFL team sign kids right out of high school and create a training
and development system that includes modules on personal finance, public speaking, contracts, and ethics. Send kids that aren't athletically
talented enough to get drafted into the development system or
academically strong enough to be real students to JUCO where they belong.
