SI story: "After arriving in Ames, Uthoff"; please get an editor

It is a very good article and a great cover picture. I have noticed over the years as newspapers, magazines, and TV companies cut staff to the bone that the editorially aspect of content has gone downhill. I am sure it pains people who used to work at say the Des Moines Register and other large papers to see there work marginalized.

The article really showed Jarrod and his family in a great light. And as was noted he didnt waste his time at Wisky since he met his fiancee there. Props to Jarrod and the hex on the jinx.

You beat me to it. Just posted something about it in the recruiting forum. Show you how much they know about athletics in the state of Iowa.

I enjoyed the article but the obvious error definitely jumps out at you.
I got a blackeye from this!
th
Just kidding , I will read it later.

Well, lucky for Uthoff they made a mistake. Everyone knows, if he were in Ames, he would never be able to get off the bench.

Meanwhile, in Ames, they're celebrating the fact that, after all these years, they've finally made into Sports Illustrated.

Couple things:

Cuts to editorial staffs lead to BS like this. Spell check and a once-over by an intern may reduce spelling errors, but they're no substitute for an editor with some knowledge of the subject matter.

Also, it's always funny to me that iowa fans hate isu and vice versa ... when a healthy percentage of the rest of the country honestly believes we are the exact same school.

In the future, I think there is a good chance Uthoff will run for some kind of office in Iowa. He said he is political and he caucused for Carly. His girlfriends dad is a senator from Ohio. If he does it will probably be after he makes a ton of money after basketball. At least he is a republican.

This isn't just about cuts to editorial staff. This is about hiring people who are utterly clueless. Who would hire someone to write an article about a premier player who didn't that the Hawkeyes don't play in Ames?

^^ You are correct in that this is probably a main SI staff writer, Brian Hamilton, and you would think he knows a ton about colleges and college sports.
