Shout out to Reece Morgan!

Reece Morgan has been at Iowa for a really long time and has been an excellent coach. As an offensive line coach he produced many great offensive lines. When wife beater Kaz left he took over a bad situation on the defensive line and it improved immediately. I think he's our best recruiter. When the salaries of assistant coaches is put out his salary is comparable to all the Iowa assistants even though he's been here three times longer and has been successful at everything he's been asked to do. I think he's sacrificed personally in order to see Iowa succeed. Thanks Reece for all you do!

He's been primarily the instate recruiter and yes he's found a bunch of the diamonds. I think he was a long time HS coach before he was asked to come aboard. I don't think he was on KFs original staff. I've had the pleasure of shaking his hand and he is as genuine as can be. The thing about him KF and a lot of the good guys in coaching is their memories are off the charts. They can tell you story after story about things be it games traveling recruiting what have you and if you ever get a chance to spend time with any of them just open your ears cause you'll enjoy it.

no, reece is not on the original staff - but close - i think he came in in the early 2000s - iowa city west coach, i believe.

I would agree that Reece is probably the top assistant coach we have as far as player development. He is the reason we have had such great OLine development. He single handedly improved our Dline. He knows how to coach Xs and Os and gets the most out of his players. It is silly that someone like Brian Ferentz can come in with zero recruiting ties, and zero experience coaching the OL, and make the same or MORE money as Reece, a guy who paid his dues by spending decades at the high school level winning a bunch of state championships, then another decade as a Big time college coach (where he recruited Brian as a high school kid).

His recruiting has been decent. Yes, he has landed a lot of in state kids. But it's not exactly the same convincing a kid from Cedar Rapids to go to Iowa as it is a kid from Dallas. He also seems to miss out on most of the elite in-state kids in the recruiting process, but lands and develops the heck out of the mid level Iowa recruits, like Scherff.

He coached at Benton Community HS I recall losing a spirited game to them

I played for Benton. Small world! I didn't get to play for Reese, but I knew him. I played for the guy who replaced him (Kal Goodchild). Reese was and still is a legend around Benton County. Absolutely no one has a bad thing to say about him. He's as genuine as it gets.

No he was hired after Pat Flaherty left for a position with the Redskins in 2000.

For some reason I had '03 stuck in my head I thought ICW won back to back state titles in '02 and '03...... I went back and checked and it was '98 and '99. I knew he was hired immediately after back to back state titles. In other words, you would be correct sir.:)

It is ******** that someone like Brian Ferentz can come in green and make the same kind of money as Reece, a guy who paid his dues winning a bunch of state championships at the high school level before earning his keep as a college coach.

You. Never. Fail (to dump on any/all members of the Ferentz family). To. Lay. Subterfuge. To. A. Positive. Topic. Or. Thread. You. Are. A. Fill-in-the-blank.

In all honesty I had to go back and check too. Couldn't remember who he replaced.
