Should McCaffery bank last scholarship?

If Iowa does not bank the last scholarship, the Hawks will only have one available for next year. May will be the lone senior on next year's team.

Pretty good question. I was originally hoping we would bank one so we could have a couple to hand out next year. The staff is pretty high on Thurman, but his grades appear to be a major hurdle. I personally hope it is Mitchell or bust.

Hope we bank the rest unless its a great recruit.

This. If (and I know it's VERY unlikely to happen) Paige were to come calling, you absolutely make room for him. Same goes for Mitchell.

This class is good enough to bank the ships unless the right guy comes along and shows interest.

I'm in agreement with HawkeyesWin and tm...bank it unless someone comes along that you have no business saying "no" to...

I agree. Unless it is a recruit, like Paige, bank it for next year.

Never bank a scholly unless there is nobody out there to help the program. If there is someone ie Charles Mitchell who could help immediately you dont hesitate to fill that scholly. Haven't you guys learned anything from the TL Error?

fermom that was a rule tried for a couple years but they eliminated it in like 08 or something

the TL era is not even in the discusion nobody has left, from here on out i see them leaving to graduation or the NBA, and i don't see those type of recruits on the roster to leave early, and the idea of filling scholrship to have the roster full is nonsense, i don't know how often i have to say this teams don't go 13 deep, i don't care how uptempo you go, even Fran probably won't go deeper than 10, so you have 3-4 sitting on the bench waiting for mop up duty, and until Iowa gets to the point of making Elite 8's you are not going to get top talent in, to just sit on the bench, top players want to play and in todays world it is to easy to leave and go elsewhere to play ie: ISU and others will take them

Banking scholarships is stupid IMO.

If you can bring in a talented player you do it, period, not just a body, but if you can bring in a player do it.

The absolute last thing a team that has had three losing seasons in a row should be worried about is whats going to happen 4 years later.

I think if Iowa can get an immediate-impact junior college player, especially at the point guard position, that would be ideal. I would like to see that and a redshirt on Clemmons. I wouldn't give the sixth scholarship to a low caliber high school player.

Think it could be nice if we bank the scholarship unless a player comes along who would be a great fit and catch for the Hawks ... But hey, I am sure Fran knows what he is doing ... Really liking how our recruiting class has shaped up ... Getting very stoked for Iowa basketball again ...

Who's talking about 4 years from now? Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but I'm hoping that a combination of better facilities, a slightly better season, and current recruiting efforts will pay even more dividends NEXT year.

Will never happen in 1 billion years! Bank it.

If you just look at the guys Iowa has offers out to, it really feels like this class is done. Almost everyone has either committed to Iowa, committed somewhere else, or eliminated Iowa. Yes, there are exceptions, but if they turn us down I don't see Fran digging up more guys to offer, especially with five guys (including two PGs) already in the fold. It makes much more sense to start working on 2013/2014. Oh, and on trying to put together a team that actually wins basketball games this year.

You two might want to reread this thread. I haven't seen anyone say that we should shut it down regardless of who's interested. The general consensus is if a Paige/Mitchell/etc. guy that we really want is available and has an open ear, then go for it. But don't just add bodies for the sake of adding bodies.

Will never happen in 1 billion years! Bank it.

I never said it would. In fact I said it was a VERY long shot. But he's an example of the type of player that you make room for, even if at the expense of spacing your classes out.
