Should Iowa fans simply accept consistent mediocracy?

Obviously most of us are very frustrated but it just seems like our coaches seem ok with being average and don't do much to try to change that. It's evident in our coaches playcalling and entire approach to the program.

I'm sick of being little ho hum Iowa; stepchild to elite programs. Why havent we turned a corner and become an upper tier program? How did the Fry era not render more program acknowledgment? How are we not able to recruit better considering we have made some significant bowl appearances and have the 6th most players in the NFL?

Does KF want to win a rose bowl or national championship here or is being slightly above .500 success enough? Why does the media NEVER address KF with any tough questions?

Are Iowa fans just supposed to swallow the bitter pill that consistent mediocracy is acceptable and that our program will never be OSU, Michigan or Wisconsin?

Thoughts???

yeah true. Is it to much to expect that we actually finish a season ranked? I think in KF's entire tenure we have only finished in the top 25 4 times...4 TIMES IN 13 YEARS!!!! Near $4M a year coach...I mean that deserves a C'mon man!

There is no end to the excuses as to why we should all be OK with 7 wins. I'm pretty sick of the apologists also.

I am really less concerned about the overall record and more concerned with the quality of play and attitude in the program.

The head coach seems uninterested in being our coach and bothered by having himself and his assistants prepare the team play a game. Major portions of the team seem uninterested in playing. Several quotes from players during our home games needing the crowd to motivate them to play. I get part of that but it also says major motivational issues in the program. No longer a hungry program.

How about forming an identity again for starters? Was there not a time when we were known for physical, smash-mouth play and other teams hated to play us? There was something about being 'bullies of the Big 10'. Now we are 'softies/uninterested of the Big 10'. Return to the blue-collar, smash-mouth identity. Recruit football players again not star-ratings and promote competition at all positions. Drop the 'fear of a mistake' mantra and promote guts and execution. Demand more from your assistants. Then see where the chips fall record wise....

So what do you hope to accomplish by getting mad and venting on the internet? This isn't about accepting "Mediocracy" (isn't that Mike Judge's sequel to Idiocracy?), it is about accepting reality.

Exactly. Are we all idiots, expecting more?

i'm venting on the internet because I'm really hungover and have nothing better to do but b!tch about Iowa football and my wife is sick of listening to me!

With KFs philosophies of ultra-conservative on O and D, this is as good as its going to get. And the fact other teams know EXACTLY what we are going to do every play on D and almost every play on O, makes us very beatable. Meanwhile, other teams do everything they can to confuse us and throw the kitchen sink at us to keep us off balance.
Example: team A can beat a more talented team B, if team A knows what team B is going
to do most plays.

KF is the worst 'game' coach in college or pro ball, and its not even close!

Ah, Hawkeyenation never fails to disappoint...

We live in a talent poor state(and getting poorer) and share it with another BCS school that competes for the limited resources of that small state. Therefore, the great State of Iowa gets to field two crap teams that cannot compete for conference championships. When was the last time Iowa won an outright conference championship? There are no more shared ones, so you may never see one again.

Hmm, then its settled... we need to nuclear bomb Iowa State!

Are you hoping to accomplish anything by your 2,000+ posts? Or are you just trying to be the message board police?

Bill -

Please list all of the Iowa football coaches who have 4 top 10 finishes AND a BCS bowl championship. You pick the order - most recent to distant, or vice versa.

Very well said. I have wondered the same thing all season. I remember this program had the attitude where they would wear down the opponent for 3 quarters and then beat them in the 4th because we were better conditioned than the opponent. The mindset of the program the last couple of years has just been so wishy-washy. No killer instinct what-so-ever.

As long as the program goes out, plays hard and plays with some emotion, I can handle whatever the record. But this ho hum, "we didn't execute" BS is getting old.

Then if we are ok with 7 wins get rid of KF and hire a coach who makes a ton less and guess what we still get 7 wins and same some cash.
