Should Gatens be in 3pt contest at Final Four?

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are. I honestly feel he would be a great pick. It would be great for Matt as well. Haluska was in it his senior year and I believe Matt could do better than Haluska did.

NCAA will base it off of percentage I assume. Matt is not listed on the NCAA site linked. Not sure why. It says that in order to be listed you have to average at least 2.5 per game. Early in the season he was not very good as I recall a lot of missed ones. Not so much as of late.:)

On the B1G stats he is listed with a 42.1%. Good, but not outstanding. Hopefully he stays in a zone these last few games.

I think that is a better 3pt % than anyone that was in the NBA 3pt competition.

Obviously it is a different, but I'd say 42.1% is very good at the college level in the B1G conference. Especially since he just recently found his stroke. I can't even imagine what it would be at if he was shooting like this all season!

It sure would be awesome if he was in it. He deserves it and I think he would have a very good shot at winning it. A good number of his 3s that he has made lately have been highly contested so I'm confident he would would shoot quite well when there is no defense. His shot is fairly quick so that also helps in a 3pt competition when there is a timer. He doesn't take a long time to load up and release for him.

Some guys shoot pretty accurately, but their shot is so slow that it works against them when they need to shoot fairly quickly.

He also has the endurance needed to do well in a 3pt competition. It can be very tiring for many guys to keep shooting so rapidly and I don't think Gatens would struggle with that.

I would say he is about as capable as anyone, but I don't know if he will be selected.

Who exactly decides who makes it in? Is it just a committee or is there a fan vote at all?

I think if he keeps lighting it up like he has been and continues to draw attention from the media/espn that he would have a chance. (Don't worry I knocked on wood ;) )

The top 2 guys are shooting 48-50% and make a little over 3 3s a game on average.

Gatens is 42% at 2.1 3s made per game on average.

However, most of the guys high up on that list are playing in weaker conferences which means the defense is probably not as good as the defense in the B1G.

I'd say Gatens would really needs to play the way he has been playing the past few games in order to make it. I guess it all depends how how they select people.

You guys are really over thinking this Gatens streak...I mean seriously boys...

They can just move the contest to halftime of one of Iowa's game in the Final 4 and Matt can still compete...
