Should Bret Bielema have supported Ferentz?

Just wondering if the former Hawkeye walk-on with the Iowa tatoo should have shown some character and stepped up for his former program. What do you think?

I don't think he needs to step up and defend him. It wasn't his issue, and he would be crazy to get in the middle of it.

I don't know that Bert said anything publicly one way or another. I never heard that any B10 coach commented.

I'm not even sure if he went after any recruits this close to signing. If he had a need he would have. His track record speaks for itself.

It just seems to me, if I'm Bret, given my history with the Hawkeyes and Ferentz, I would have shown some character and risen above the fact that Wisconsin and Iowa are rivals, and stood up for my Big Ten colleague. Others around the country, former ISU people even, have come out and stood up for Chris Doyle. I just think it would have made Bielema look like a folk hero. And I think, despite the cynicism that is easy to bring to this, that it would have been the right thing to do. I'm disappointed -- but not surprised -- that he didn't do it.

I agree with Hawkeye Shane. He'd have contacted the recruits and while on hold give his favorite ambulance chasing trial lawyer the phone number to U of I hospitals.

There is a reason he is not liked by many other Big 10 fans, especially those in Minnesota. He has done some classless things.

I am good friends with Bret he would never tear iowa down. He has nothing to gain about talking about this! I promise you he still loves Iowa and would never bad mouth us!

Of course he has nothing to gain. If he comes out and says we have an outstanding coaching staff, he can't turn around and badmouth them to recruits he's trying to steal.

Why?

None of the Big Ten coaches said anything publicly either in favor of, or against Ferentz. And they'd be stupid to have done anything in the first place, considering nobody knows the whole story yet. Why put your foot in your mouth defending or calling out a conference opponent (and rival)?

He is still trying to explain to the Wisconsin boosters why he didn't run the big guy against TCU until the 4th quarter.

Did you really just ask this question? Flip the situation...would you want Iowa to support Bielema who coaches a rival school in the same conference we compete in and that same school goes after the same recruits year in and year out?

I think I just answered your question.

Did you forget this is the same guy going head to head with Iowa on about every recruit? No way in he** would he come out on behalf of Ferentz.

Good call. Be angry at people not responsible for the situation. American politicians have taught you well.
