Shocking Story on Everson/Satterfield Trial

Pretty lame this is being reported on ESPN when these players are no longer members of the Iowa program.

Edit to not come across as insensitive to the situation. It's disgusting what these guys did to her (if in fact what she says is the truth) and they deserve whatever punishment they get.

I just don't see the need for ESPN to be breaking a story on this topic.

Hopefully this trial will play out the jury will reach its conclusion and some finality will be reached for all parties involved. I did not read the entire report about the administration's handling of this incident but it certainly does not seem like this incident was handled well.

Yeah, I thought the same thing, do they really have to associate this with Iowa football, since they were kicked off the team for it, so they aren't associated with the team anymore. I know why ESPN does it that way, I just wish they wouldn't.

I don't disagree, but I guess the fact that the trial is happening now means the story resufaces and the scab is ripped off the wound, so to speak.

To me it's more of a news story and not a sports story like the DSMR and ESPN are putting out there. I don't mind that they are former Iowa FB players but the DSMR has the story under Iowa FB which is BS!

That they were Iowa football players at the time of the incident makes it a sports / football story. If they were simply students, ESPN would not be reporting it.

This is absolutely disgusting. This does reopen an old wound. KF handled this pretty well considering that they hadn't been charged yet. The whole thing about her living in the dorm with them tafter the incident hough is really astonishing.

horrible story, but the young woman made some pretty stupid moves herself.

What's that, getting drunk with her co-athletes that she knew and lived with?
Giving Satterfeld a BJ thinking that would at least allow her to keep her virginity?

or maybe, her stupid move was passing out since Everson took it upon himself to rape her while she was unconscious.

Stupid is going home with someone who you don't know, yet we've all done that numerous times.

Partying with people who you consider your friends most would argue is being responsible.

Sorry drummer man the only stupid thing in this thread was that comment.

"Stupid" is certainly too harsh. But she did make some mistakes after the incident, namely reporting it to the athletic department instead of the police.

I don't know many 18-19 year olds that don't do stupid things. Sure, she did quite a few stupid things that night, but there's absolutely no excuse for what happened.

As another poster has stated, I really hope the jury is able to come to a decision on this so all involved can try to get past this.

I was reading the live blog of the trial coverage and it was pretty heavy stuff.

When Satterfield gets on the stand, I think it's going to get very ugly. The things he, Pugh, & Everson are accused of are crazy and they are all throwing each other under the bus.

And Pugh is very lucky. If he held her down at any point, he should be in some trouble himself.

I'm not condoning anything here, and I think it is absolutely horrible what they allegedly did. Now, if the girl was passed out I can't see how her testimony is at all viable, and all of the other "witnesses" are heresay except for Satterfield who made a plea bargain to NO JAIL TIME. He raped her too, when she was awake! This is ridiculous to me.

She was passed out when Everson was there, but his DNA was found. She was awake and semi-coherent for the rest.

This is a horrible and tragic story. It's awful to read about the evil this poor young woman was subjected to.

Having said that, "stupid" is a word that can be applied to any person getting drunk anywhere but the privacy of their own home. Think about every person that has ever done anything they regretted doing drunk that they would not have sober. Everyone's aggression, letting their guard down, their inability to function normally. Every person that has ever lost someone due to a drunk driver. Every college kid that falls off a balcony and dies. Every drowning. They all thought they could handle it and that nothing bad had happened to them before anyway.
How much do any of us have to think before we know of someone who was killed, hospitalized, or raped because of drunkeness? I had a high school classmate die driving drunk. I'm thankful it hasn't been closer than that. Drunk in public=stupid.

Has evidence been presented that she was "passed out" when Everson was there? She does not remember him, as well as many other details from that evening. Saterfield is the one who will provide the damning evidence against Everson, yet he is the only person the alleged victim testified forcibly raped her. Ugly business.

What sort of evidence could there be?
