Sharing of recruiting info - Jon's policy?

Just wanting to check with Jon or anyone that knows Miller's policy in regard to sharing recruiting info from ESPN. I know Jon doesn't want payed info from local guys being posted on the boards but what about ESPN Insider? Thanks.

Just say you heard it and dont say where you heard it from. You may get a bunch of jackasses asking for source just ignore them and post what you know.

if it's ESPN Insider info then don't do it. If it's just from the general site that anyone can get to it should be fine.

Plaigarism - not cool. Sharing information that you know, regardless of where you got it from and whether or not you had to pay, should be fine.

So don't take their article and copy and paste it but cliff notes is fine.

Dont copy and paste premium materials. You can reference or generalize, but also be sure to attribute where you first saw the information.

LOL, thanks all, I'll make sure not to go verbatim with the article's or info, it's just from time to time I'll read something pertaining to Iowa recruiting,(visitors, trimming of lists, etc.) and don't mind passing it along. I'll make sure to give full credit.

One thing that I'd say that undercuts some of this is that we're also speaking about the recruiting game ... which is, by and large, a game of rumor. Furthermore, we're also talking about high-school aged young men ... many of whom have a changing opinion of what they think/want on a weekly time-scale.

Furthermore, while there is a HUGE market for getting your hands on this sort of info ... it's hardly the sort of work that merits the tag of "intellectual" property. The info, for the most part just gets released in unedited form via outlets that are "blog portals."

I've been in the academic game and I do not view plaigarism as cool ... however, an individual is kidding themselves if they believe that "stealing" such premium info and sharing it is truly on the same level as plaigarism.

I know that decent individuals like Jon, Rob, Blair, and Tom (among others) have attempted to make a living selling such info as such. However, no offense, but if you keep your ears to the wall and learn who to pay attention to ... you find out pretty much everything sooner rather than later anyhow. I've never had a subscription to ANY service ... and yet I'm usually no less informed than anybody else here.

You can always PM me the info through one of the sites (rivals, scout, or hn) ... and I can blab it. I don't subscribe to anything. I'll just say that I've heard second-hand about ...

Patrick, if you're uncomfortable doing that, just send me the info telepathically and I'll have Mac50702 pass it along.
