Shaq to Iowa ?

This would be a good get. You know, I bet Fran is very aware of who Wes Washpun is, and yet he's recruiting a kid from New York that sounds very similar. This leads me to believe that Fran thinks this kid is better than Washpun. I think Fran's ability to recruit out there could really pay off.

From what I understand he has been really impressive. Previously he's played a lot of SG and 6' is probably a little generous for his size. No one was sure how he would be at pg but has really played out of his mind. I think he could be a Basabe like recruit who was slightly overlooked.

It looks like his team is the top ranked team in NYC

Exactly they've obviously seen him plenty while watching Oglesby. If they feel Stokes is better than him and worthy of a schollie then I'm excited for Stokes.

Here is my take on Stokes, it appears he is in a transition between positions; moving from SG to PG and is doing it rather well. If he is 6'0" and it appears he may be a little shorter than that, but not a bad thing by any means.
This is a must get for Iowa for many reasons:
1. He reminds me a lot of Cartwright at this point.
2. Iowa cannot bank on getting a PG in the 2012 class.
3. Stokes can be redshirted to learn and get stronger for a year, unless he proves he deserves major playing time.
4. It would be a sweet transition to go from Payne to Stokes as a third-year sophomore at PG
5. Stokes provides athleticism that Iowa needs at all spots.
6. How many people say NY PG's are the best in the country?

I like the idea of this Staff planning ahead, unlike the previous regimes. This staff gets it, Iowa has to replenish its roster in all areas and a roster can never have enough guards. If Stokes comes to Iowa the roster is set at every position for the next three years, except for Center with the addition of Josh Oglesby and Aaron White.
Roster if Stokes comes:
PG: Cartwright-Payne-(Stokes)
SG: Gatens-Marble-Oglesby
SF: May-McCabe-White
PF: Basabe-McCabe-White
C: Brommer-Archie-(Katenda/Olesani)
Is there still a need for players? No question, but lets see who else Fran can add with the two players already signed. The Center position is a question mark, but I would like to see Iowa get either Olesani or Katenda. Each player has length and it will be interesting if Iowa can land either one.
That would be an interesting roster.
Go Hawks

Any player we get at the Center should be better than brommer, as along as it isnt Cougill.

It would be great to get a New York kid every year, keep the pipeline open, especially if they are as talented as Baasbe! Stormin what have you heard about this kid?

Here's a short video. Only one I could find.

Those kids look a little young, I'm guessing that may have been from awhile ago? And do they seriously have to have an And1 Mixtape-esque announcer?!?! That would drive me crazy if I was there.

Definitely like the fact that he thinks inside first -- not a single jump shot on that video. The tear-drop wasn't bad either.

This is the eval from the folks over at ESPN. Sounds like the perfect type guard for Fran's offensive attack. Key word being attack!

Strengths:
Stokes can knock down pull-ups both in the mid-range area as well as behind the arc and showed deep range and a quick release while using a leg kick on his release to create space. This quick and speedy lead guard is on the attack on every catch. He pushes the ball until the defense forces him to give it up and if he is not brought under control he will take it coast to coast or knock down runners in the lane that he has perfected with excellent touch and concentration on the rim. He can beat his defender at will with his quickness with the ball and finishes at a high percentage over taller defenders.

Weaknesses:
He can cool off as quickly as he can heat up, showing how streaky he can be with his shot. While he was able to create his own shot at times, he also forced some low percentage plays and lost his court vision at times. Although he handles pretty well, he isn't a pure point guard and spent alot of time off the ball. Defensively, he was beaten off the dribble at various points and especially struggled to get over ball screens.

Bottom Line:
Although streaky he can knock down the open three with space. Stokes is a terrific slasher in between defenders as well. At times he over penetrates and turns it over but you have to live with a few turnovers with a guard that attacks the entire game. He must learn how to better run a team and have a conscious understanding of time and score but Stokes clearly has the talent to be a terrific point guard.
