What do we know about em? They cruised in their 2 openers as well. I know a lot of people felt this was likely a L for Iowa coming into the season. I've been encouraged with our openers and think we have more than a punchers chance on Thursday.

I just looked into there stats. They have relied on there starters much more heavily than we have through two games. They have a junior guard (Carrington) averaging 22.5PPG. They have a big man (Delgado) averaging 18PPG/15RPG. They have two other scorers averaging over 10PPG.

Here is what I noticed when I looked deeper into the stats. I'll preface this by saying SHU will probably end up shooting lights out against us now so blame me. They only have 3 players on the team who have made 3s this year, for a total of 15 3s. Of those Carrington is 9/10 on the season from deep. I have to imagine that's an aberration (he shot 33.5% last year). There leading assist guy Madison Jones has attempted only one 3. He is a Senior transfer from Wake and has shot less than 15 career 3s. Maybe Jok can take him and sag off and Williams can take Carrington. Zone could be an option too, but they are a good offensive rebounding team so I worry about them killing us on the boards.

Keys to the game for Iowa:
1. 3pt shooting (this is how we can seperate ourselves from them, if they do get hot, could be a long night for us)
2. Defensive rebounding (SHU advantage will be on the boards, we need to box out better than we have.)
3. Get Delgado in foul trouble (with the emergence of Pemsl, we have plenty of bigs we can throw in there at him and try to get him in foul trouble, which would be huge).

I haven't watched them play yet so if anyone has, I'd be interested in hearing more about them.

One thing that will be interesting is who takes Delgado. My guess would be that Uhl starts on him and Wagner gets the next crack. Let Cook focus on the offensive end and avoid foul trouble. Here's what I'd like to see for Iowa's defensive matchups:

G- Madison Jones 6'2 vs G- Jok 6'6 (sag off and use length to disrupt his passes)
G- Khadeen Carrington 6'4 vs Williams 6'5 (this is his first chance to shut down an opposing guard who can score)
F- Desi Rodriquez 6'6 vs Baer 6'7 (He's their third leading scorer)
F- Ismael Sanagi 6'8 vs Cook 6'9 (This kid averaged 7.5 Rebounds last year, so Cook has to box him out)
F- Angel Delgado 6'10 vs Uhl 6'9 (this is going to be tough for Uhl but just battle in there).

It will also be interesting to see how SHU matches up with Iowa. Do they put Delgado on Cook and risk getting him in foul trouble? If they put him on Uhl and he can hit a couple 3s we might be able to pull him away from the basket. Also who do they put on Jok? If it's Carrington, does that hurt his offense?

Just remember to not get your expectations high after we win.
Hopefully, Iowa will win. If the Iowa football team can beat Michigan then the Iowa basketball team can beat anyone they play this year. They need a little seasoning, but they do have talent.

Remember, Seton Hall ran the big east tournament last year by beating Creighton, Xavier and national champion Villanova. They return 3 of their top 4 scorers from last year.

I think it will be close but my gut says Seton Hall has the experience and Iowa is still learning.

But they lost the player that was really the only reason they won those games

This is a great time for Iowa to find out how far we have come in the 2016/2017 season. SH is a quality team, and yeah, I would love a win. But even if we don't get it done, we will learn a lot and Fran will have a basis to really coach them up. Looking forward to Thursday. And, with an easier game on Sunday, they will have a chance to recover and get their confidence rebuilt if Thursday does not go well.

I prefer to look at games not if we'll win or lose, but if we did win, how would we do it. CW has to play Carrington well. We need to start manifesting our rebounding potential. Cook and Pemsl have picked up a lot of boards these first two games. Baer and Wagner are savvy. They can clean the glass, now keep the other guys off it. Offensively, limit turnovers. We'll score if we have the possessions.

I saw somewhere we have a 62% chance of winning.

Was that right after Michigan called a time out to try to freeze the kicker? Lol,

I haven't seen any of the games yet but as much as I want Iowa to win I just don't think things are in their favor even though they are home. Experience trumps youth unless you are loaded with four and five star recruits and even then it's going to be tough.

Sounds like Brady had a good game. I hope he has another one against Seton Hall. If he does this game could could be a much closer game.

Seton Hall 93. Iowa 77
