Seton Hall vs Iowa Gamethread

Uhl had 8 pts/10 rebs on 5 shots and was in foul trouble. He did hit a late three but still I thought his aggressiveness helped. Just needs to chip in little more scoring.

Iowa has 7-8 quality forwards

Iowa is weak at the PG position again...elite PG needed

Iowa does not have a shot blocker

Iowa needs to figure out how to inhibit someone who tries to score off the dribble

No surprises...

I want to see the boxscore. SH must be shooting pretty well. Of course playing defense might lower it.
You can get a boxscore on BTN. Bohannon didn't have a good game, but he looks like he is going to be tough in the future. If Jok hasn't learned to play defense by now I doubt he will ever learn to play defense. He put a lot of stress on the Iowa big guys. I'd give Seton Hall the game on the Iowa lack of defense. It seemed like they had fifty points in layups. It was only their first real game this year though. They are going to be fun to watch, especially if Jok plays on both ends.

How does Bohannon look like he's going to be tough in the future? He looked like he didn't belong out there tonight in my opinion and Fran played him too much in the second half.

Bohannon seems to lack the quickness we need at pg. Williams has that, he just needs to be more aggressive. The drive & pop 10-15 footers will work for him.

It was Bohannons first real game as a true freshman. He'll get better. I thought we went away from the inside late in the game. I would have liked to keep feeding Cook. Fran will get the guys to play better D.

Go Hawks!

Monte Morris looked completely lost in his first game against real competition. Way too early on judgement for j-bo but man he had a really bad stretch there.

Williams got 24" , Bo got 19" I'd like that to be 30 and 10, with a couple more to Ellingson. Williams length and height will play a lot farther and produce more ( as it did, tonight ) plus help on D (mis directing shots).

Improve Freethrows, defense, and find a few more points from players not named Jok....and we got sumpin here.

Even with the loss (to a solid SH team that caught fire late), I'm encouraged overall.

JFC man, and you wonder why people think you are a troll.

By that logic Cook's future must suck because he struggled vs Kennesaw St. going 1-7, or how Moore (your BFF) struggled in his first game going 1-8, or how Pemsl struggled tonight. Heck you new BFF Powell struggled his first game going 2-7

They are Fr, they will struggle, have you ever even watch BB before?

Overall it was a pretty good game for the Hawks. They faded down the stretch a bit (and it didn't help that Seton Hall started hitting all their 3's), but there was undeniable talent and athleticism on the floor for Iowa. I don't think it's hyperbole to say that Cook will easily be the best player Iowa has had under Fran. If he can improve his free throw shooting he could legitimately average 15+ per game this season. Seton Hall is a solid team that returned most of their players and should push for an NT bid. Iowa played pretty much zero defense tonight so any improvement in that area will go a long ways. It should be a fun season, albeit inconsistent.

You develop guys by getting them game reps. or do we feel differently about basketball than football?

True frosh brotha, he showed promise, but struggled in a 3 minute stretch in the 2nd half. Way too early to tell either way

There is no doubt that he struggled. I really didn't expect him to win the game on his first real game. What impressed me was when he missed his first free throw he seemed to display a lot of mental toughness. He did make all the rest of his free throws. I think he will settle down in the future. I don't really understand how Tyler Cook could only get one rebound. Wagner only had maybe three. Iowa did outrebound them altogether though.

Early days.....

Thought Jordan should have fouled instead of letting 2 pirates make layups. Make them shoot the free throws. They were 17-31 from the free throw line.

We knew that PG was an issue and it was. Room for improvement for certain.

The D.....the bloody D must improve and it will with practice and game experience.

The lack of experience vs that of Seton Hall certainly showed down the stretch. That will improve as the season goes on.

Cook had a breakout game. He and Jok had 54 points. They will be fun to watch the entire season.

Considering the gap in game experience, we did alright. Not going to get too upset with the team. No unreasonable expectations this year. Just going to watch the games for improvement, and enjoy watching Tyler and Peter work their magic.

That still didn't answer my question, what did Bohannon do to say he looks like he'll be tough in the future? Of course freshman struggle early on, it's a steep learning curve but I must have missed the flashes of toughness he showed last night. Plus you're comparing Bohannon to four star guys like Powell and Cook? Even with Pemsl it's pretty apparent those guys belong out there

What did Bohannon do that was so egregious? He had a few minute stretch where he turned the ball over with a couple carless passes. Was he getting his pocket picked bring the ball up the court? Was he getting harassed so much the he couldn't get us into our offense, because he can't handle the ball?

I didn't see a PG out there that looked any different than most PG do as Fr. Like Bryce said, Monte looked so bad (and it wasn't just one game), that I remember that I started thinking dude was gonna be a bust.

It simply isn't going to be a plus position for us for most of the year. That doesn't mean they won't develop over the next year and be better for us in the following years. So go ahead and keep being douchy, you will have plenty of reason to do so this year, as we will struggle at the PG position with youth.
