Serious questions and answers

Just reading the transcript from today presser and Kirk never seems to amaze us. Below are some small samples of the tenacious media's questions and Kirk's well thought out answers to said questions.

Q. You said at the beginning of the year you needed and expected Jake to improve his game. How has he improved?
COACH FERENTZ: He's just a better player. It's usually the formula for our best players. They improve during their careers.

This one below gets asked no less than 10 out of the 12 weeks we play…. Put the ball on the tee for Kirk and he hits it every time...

Q. How would you describe Mark Weisman to someone as a player and a person?
COACH FERENTZ: He's a great story, first of all. Just his route to get here, then what he's done since he got here. Part of that being we really had no idea or appreciation for what he would become his first year on campus. He's a great guy. He worked hard and took care of business. There's no way to forecast what was going to take place. After the first spring, we were pretty confident we had a really good fullback on our hands. Then the rest of the story unweaved in 2012. To accomplish what he's accomplished already is fantastic. Hopefully he'll end up in the record books. He already has. He's in a pretty elite category, a lot of categories that are pretty significant. I think he's got a great future beyond college football. The best part he's an unbelievably great young man. Extremely quiet, extremely humble. I don't know if we have anybody that works harder or does things right better than he has.

He does confirm our suspicions that indeed he is choosing to play a fullback in this question and answer…

Q. Why do you see for him in an NFL future?
COACH FERENTZ: People play fullbacks in the NFL. He'd be a highly skilled fullback, pretty good running back. But as a fullback, he has a really unique talent that way. Better market for that. There are only 32 teams in the NFL, probably a better market in pro football than there is in college football for fullbacks.

This one hits home. It's clear we are seeing the next Dez Bryant here at Iowa in the form of Matt Vandenberg. Can't wait to watch this cat just blossom in front of our eyes. This probably entails Tavon Smith being relegated to third down opportunities going forward.

Q. The wide receiver ranks this year, would you say this group has improved?
COACH FERENTZ: I think so, yes. I think we're a lot better than we were. We're making progress. I thought we were better Saturday than we probably have been for a while. So it was good. Good to see some other guys get involved. Matt VandeBerg was probably the most productive guy we've had, a guy we think has a chance to be a really good player here. The more guys we can get involved Saturday, the better we're going to be as a team.

A real succinct analysis of the legendary qb at the helm…

Q. How does Jake, when it comes to handling the offense, how does he compare to the others?
COACH FERENTZ: He's really good. You project with everybody as a recruit, then certainly the quarterback position is no different

And finally Kirk is being just to damn honest here.. Wake up and leave my man.

Q. You mentioned the Kinnick crowd. Has there been enough of those moments the last few years at Kinnick?
COACH FERENTZ: I don't know. I'm kind of tone deaf on Saturday, I've got to be honest with you

He just doesn't care at ALL. So tired of this joke.

KF: "yeah look at us, we got wieseman, vandeburg and jake woooflippin'whoooo. Oh we lost, sorry i'm just not tuned in on IA football on saturdays you know?"

But were there any questions about Kirk's favorite smoothie flavor or where he gets his haircut?

WR ranks a lot better, huh? Just read 5 minutes ago where Martin Manley leads all receivers in catches (43), for a whopping (are you sitting down?) total of 431 yards. That is 39.18 yards PER GAME FOLKS....that's one good Iowa punt!!! The media is an embarrassment....most questions are formed in the shape of a statement where we all have already heard the upcoming reply 1000x before. Again, that is why I'll never understand why anyone would fear getting blackballed by KF....NOBODY is at risk for "Missing some golden nugget" he might throw out because the questions he gets never promote such a nugget.

By contrast, Bo said to the press on Monday....(I'm paraphrasing) you know what I like about being here is people expect you to win 'em all. And so do I. I'm not happy unless we win 'em all. That's what we're shooting for here. I want to win a national championship.

He said it in a calm, mater of fact way. Not bragadocious at all. It was sincere. Can you imagine if KF said something like that about - We want to win the conference. OH MY!!

The OP is an idiot.

Football reporters are not investigative journalists trying to undercover foreign national secrets. They go to these press conferences so they can write stories in newspapers of general interest to people. Somebody wants to write a story about Mark Weisman before Senior Day and asks a question so he can get some quotes. Go figure. And no matter what a reporter asks Ferentz he's going to answer it how he pleases.

The constant whining is nauseating. We are currently a mediocre team and a mediocre program. That's reality. We can complain about that I guess. We can complain about how we don't beat other Power 5 conference teams for recruits. That's fair. But all of this other nonsense, about how KF answers press conference questions, or plays favorites, or doesn't understand football, is complete nonsense.

You and I can only wish he were that hungry. I will say he did have some **** and vinegar last Saturday but for the most part the last three years he has that wet puppy dog look.

And despite Bo's, apparently, excellent press conference skills, the entire state of Nebraska still wants to fire him. Because no coach has ever won a single game due to exquisite press conference answers.

I am making a different point. I'm talking, not about results on the field, but rather transparency.

What exactly do you want them to ask? People should know by now that you're going to get the same type of answer from Kirk no matter what type of question you ask.

The fact that people constantly get upset due to these pressers is tiresome.

I don't think he's overly worried about being transparent. I'm not being sarcastic either when i say this; he flat out doesn't care at all about this program. His responses never vary. Why would they? He puts zero thought into them. He's not even cognicent of a crowd inside a football stadium that he's coaching in. I mean, he seriously doesn't care one bit about being a football coach-except for the paycheck and accolades coming from brainwashed hawk fans. And really, he doesn't give a rip whether you like him or not, so scratch the accolades comment. His responses sound like a guy who is solely thinking about greener pastures and the next "phase" in his life (whatever that might be for him).

I might be wrong here though and it may be as simple as; he is just totally clueless.

Herkish - You are not wrong...you are 100% correct.

Drew003 - Save the general interest stories for Jan - Aug. From Sept - Dec I want real questions posed as to why KF says crap like "It sometimes takes until October until you get things established"....BS like this only enforces my point of how he treats non-conference games like NFL pre-season....no wonder he never mentions a National Championship as a goal when he's seemingly focusing on only 8 games per season.

what do KF's presser answers have to do with his desire to win? Do you ever watch a Belichek presser? I don't hear anyone saying Belichek doesn't want to win, but he is clearly not interested in providing any information in his press conferences. Like KF, he shows up because it is a required part of his job.

I don't know what kind of motivational skills Kirk has in the locker room, which is a reasonable thing to speculate on if his desire to win is questioned.

This may not just be the dumbest post of the week, or month, or even the year...could be a first team all american dumbest post. Geez. Are you kidding?

madrx - Stop for one minute and count the skins that Belichek has on the wall....then count KF's....stop when/if you reach one (1) skin. KF hasn't earned the right to act like a jerk....plain and simple.

As an apologist I doubt Cyclone-7-win seasons do anything but make you proud. Seriously, your ilk are why we are in the situation where we are descending in the weakest division of the B1G.

So people are idiots for paying that kind of money to support their favorite team during a nationally televised game that was a great show and expecting that the coach may have noticed the atmosphere? I thought his tone definness was a prefect explanation for why a lot of former KF supporter are jumping ship. As a coach you have to wear many hats, PR being one of them. The longer he has been at Iowa the more entitled he appears to become. Now he is even too lazy to pretend to care the fans are what makes his job possible. KF feels like a politician that has been in office too long and forgets how he got there.
