Season Over: What Now?

There's nothing left to accomplish for this team. Even if they went 10-2 (and they won't), they're either going to the Redbox Bowl (if they finish better than 6-6), Detroit (if they finish 6-6), or missing a bowl game entirely. The last six games of the regular season should be used to prepare for 2020.

1. Oliver Martin needs to be starting. We need to find out if he can actually play or if he's a hometown kid who wasn't getting minutes for Michigan because he isn't any good.

2. Both Petras and/or Mansell need at least two series each every game from here on out. One of them is going to transfer when Hogan gets to campus, and both will transfer if Hogan is the starter (which he should be if neither Petras or Mansell can play better than Nate Stanley). We might as well start the process now. Tell one of them that he's #1 going into next year, let the other one transfer, and get Hogan on campus.

3. Nate Stanley being allowed to rewrite the Iowa record book for passing would be criminal. Let him come out and get his start on Senior Night, but that's all he's owed. He's been given opportunity after opportunity, and he just isn't any better than average. Even tonight, the vast majority of his product came in garbage time and through short checkdowns that didn't affect the game at all. He can't carry Chuck Long's jockstrap.

4. Every freshman redshirt on the offensive line can be burnt. Again, let's find out if there's someone else who can play because most of these dudes aren't any good. That includes Wirfs, who Iowa did literally everything for to get him eligible and is below average.

5. The RB by committee thing isn't working and it isn't going to work. Goodson is obviously the talent, and he's also the youth. He needs 20 carries a game minimum so he can be learning the game on the field. Pick one of the veterans to back him up, and that's the list. Let the others transfer if they want. The running game has been terrible outside of Goodson, so go with the one who has talent.

6. If I were running the program, Polacek would be fired tomorrow. Of course this won't happen because reasons.

7 (and maybe most important). Kirk needs to understand that there's no such thing as a Union Card in 2019. His reliance on upperclassmen simply doesn't work any more. If you have a kid who's average as a sophomore or junior, you don't keep starting him...you play the freshman who you recruited to play there and let the upperclassman hit the transfer portal. Kirk continues to play returning players who have gotten minutes in past years and just aren't any good...and they aren't getting any better. If he can't understand that, then he needs to get his gold watch and retire.

Both Petras & Mansell looked significantly better than Nate in the open practice. Just one practice, but that's what happened.

Come to Daddy.

BTW.....lukewarm reception for him and his team tonight IMHO from at the game. Because, we all know what is coming there as well.

OP I agree with everything, but the entire offensive coaching staff needs to go. Actually the only coach that should be allowed to stay is Parker. That's it. KF needs to take his sorry ass out of Iowa City as well. Nobody with the name Ferentz should be allowed to coach here again.

You hear recruits say that Iowa athletics are like a family. It's because they are. Football coach hires his son. KF cannot fire BF. Only way BF goes anywhere is if he resigns and that isn't happening either. That is why you never hire family or friends. If things turn to shit you are stuck with them.

The most insulting part of this is that Kirk and Brian don’t see their game plans as being the problem.

it’s always execution. Always the players. This scheme has won Big10 championships before and by golly it’ll happen again if we just keep doing it!!!!!!

I’ve said it before but the networks must hate seeing Iowa on their plate. It’s putting lipstick on a pig the entire broadcast

hey this is old school football!!!
Classic Big 10 !!!!

Meanwhile on ESPN two top 10 teams are scoring close to 100 points, and both those teams are known for defense first!!!

Flip back over to ABC and it’s sack, 3 yard pass, punt.

Iowa’s defense is legit. Not going to fault them for making other teams offense suck, but add in the Iowa offense and these games are unwatchable.

i stopped going to the bars to watch cause people keep asking if this what every game is like (and beers in Cali are $10 haha). Save $, and can turn it off at home

It’s his 21st season how long is he going to coach? Do we have a Dan Snyder situation where he coaches until he is 94?

6-6 maybe a crap bowl game and we will get "that's football" from the most boring coach in all of football

I think Iowa will end up 8-4, possibly 9-3. And that's because the rest of the division except Wisconsin is so bad. The only other team with a pulse other than Wisconsin is Minnesota. Fortunately Iowa has Minnesota at home this year.

I have a feeling hes just not good, if he was better than what we have out there he'd be playing.

I'm starting to wonder myself. I mean...highly recruited, Iowa jumps through all of the hoops to make him immediately eligible, and...he doesn't even sniff the field?

Season over...LOL. We just played the two of the three best defenses we will play all year. Wisconsin, right now, will destroy our offense similar to what they did to MSU yesterday...that was a 2016 Iowa beat down in Madison. Almost identical. Iowa now has two games to get it together, that they can win these games with some of these mistakes and allow guys to grow. NW is going to be a low scoring game, but 3 points may win that one.

We have issues on the interior of the offensive line period. Last week it was interior and the left tackle. Jackson played alot better last night. Wirfs was solid last night. I will also say, Kallenberger played pretty well...he had a few bad plays...but for the most part he did well in the passing game. The interior of the OL is just a mess right now...mental mistakes and physical mistakes. I think we need to burn Britt's redshirt...let him play.

The last two weeks reminded me of 2012. Vandenberg ran for his life almost at the snap...for the entire game. I don't think we are at that point though...but we are going to ask a young player to step up. Our 5th year seniors aren't getting it done. Schott, although against lesser competition, played well...so he's an option. Kallenberger is going to solidify the right side...we need a left guard.

This team won't quit...win the next two...and then take a shot at Wisconsin, and win the final two. It's not what we wanted, but I think this team will be much better in a few weeks.

I love how everyone is suggesting "this team won't quit". Guess what? The guys at Alabama and Wisconsin and Ohio State don't quit either. They just win a hell of a lot more when not quitting. That's not something to brag about.
