Sean McDonough and Chris Spielman - broadcasters this Saturday

I like Spielman. He calls a spade a spade out there. Not a big hyperbili guy. Hope they get the graphics better. ESPNs job last week was terrible. From the announcers to the graphics just annoys the crap out of me when they don't have a clue who is who on the field. I'll be at the game but I'll be DVRing it too.

After the kickers were 1/4 on FGs in the first 55 minutes, I couldn't help but laugh at the "Field Goal Range" line on the field on Iowa's last two drives. It was pure comedy.

HA! My wife nudged me during the last drive and asked, "Where do we need to get to for a field goal?" The guy in front of us turns around and says " The two."

Thank god it's not Beth Mowins and Joey Douchaway. Although I thought Galloway called it right when Beathard came in...you don't do that to your starter who's played well. You just don't. Did he win the job or not, has he played well...don't invite the controversy.

If Iowa State loads the box...I hope Iowa comes out throwing on every down. Rudock has shown he can be accurate. Just keep moving the chains and wearing down the defense. Did you see how worn out Ball State was at the end of that game? Their DB's and DL couldn't move they were so gassed.

PA will be there all game long.

I respectfully disagree. Galloway needed to shut his face on that issue.

He had no idea on several critical decision-making factors, such as: (1) how the two QBs practiced that week; (2) whether there was a specific defensive weakness that the staff recognized that would be better exploited by CJB; (3) whether it was a planned substitution or otherwise; (4) whether Rud asked to come out of the game for a series; or (5) how the concept of subbing in CJB was received in practice by CJB, JR, and the rest of the team. I could go on ad nauseum.

There are a number of scenarios in which replacing your starting QB for one or more series is not disrespecting the starter or otherwise showing a vote of no-confidence in the starter.

Galloway jumped the gun on this one, in my opinion.

Our "Field Goal Range" line should be akin to the semi-circle one sees on a soccer field. Only smaller.

I must be off when it comes to the annoucers.... looks like the majority like Spielman and I have no issues with him but it's McDonough that I think makes the team.

And last week, everybody hated Mowins but I dislike Joey much more than her.

I have to disagree here. If this decision was communicated to the QBs and team before the game (which I'm confident it was), then I don't see it as inviting controversy. This is a relatively common practice in college football. Rudock's a smart guy, he understands that it's good to get some reps for the backup in case of injury and also in preparation for upcoming seasons. And if Mowins/Galloway had done more than a little prep for the game they would have known this was coming.

By the way, the fans and even some broadcasters/analysts were criticizing the coaches for not getting some playing time for Rudock in '12. Well, which way do we want it?

ETA: Sorry, LG210, didn't see your post.

Actually, in my opinion, these two are the BEST in the business.
Sean McDonough's preparation is the best out there.
And Spielman, the former OSU star backer is such a Class act
THUMBS UP !

We were dying laughing about that too. The "field goal range" line was at like the 30 or something as if the Iowa kickers could make a 47 yard field goal, we were laughing really hard at that.

IMO that last drive was TD or bust

Funny you say that.. We laughed to when we saw that FG range marker on TV. I CRINGE when they mention FG.

I am not normally a fan of Galloway, but I thought he did a good job on Rudock's last 2 drives of predicting how the Iowa Line was dominating so much that Rudock could stand back all day and just wait for a receiver to get open. And he was exactly right. Give Rudock credit for being patient enough too, but Galloway's analysis strangely gave me confidence on Iowa's last drive and probably explains why Rudock had so much confidence too (not because of Galloway, but because the offensive line was dominating)

Galloway also did a good job of explaining why Powell's TD catch was not a catch and would be overturned. He was absolutely right about that too, which you would expect, since Galloway was an all-star WR.

I will agree that that the Beth Mowins production team is awful. Very slow in identifying players and did not notice that Beathard was in the game until 3rd down, but at least she recovered and had lots to say about Beathard after she actually noticed he was in the game.
