Five of their wins came against teams with 7 or more losses; Stephen F Austin, Ks State, Louisana, Arkansas, and @ Ol Miss. There four losses were against @Alabama, Florida, @Kentucky, @LSU. Please note the losses away from home. There best win, and was home win, was against 8-4 Texas A&M, then a win against a 7-5 Auburn. There conference record was 4-4.

Just an opinion on part but those 8 wins and defensive stats came against some less than stellar competition.

I'll take comfort in that. At the same time, we could apply a similar analysis to Iowa who ......

I hope Brian has some wrinkles ... I think he will. It always seemed to me in the past Iowa had no wrinkles.....I imagined the players practicing the same 6 plays over and over and over...no fun or variety.

And so did ours. Who did we beat worth a shit all year? Our offensive success came against mighty Minnesota, and Indiana, UNI, Illinois. What were the combined records of those teams? If you're questioning how good that defense of MSU is, well its legit. They have 3 projected top 15 draft picks on defense, and they held Alabama far below their season average for points and yards. It will be by far the best defense we have seen all year, and we struggled against some crap defenses this year.

Our wins were equally paltry. HOWEVER, we cudda wudda shudda won all the games we lost, against quality opponents.

Look at Iowa thru MSU’s eyes. They are thinking we gotta deal with a highly rated defense with 2 very good DE’s and an all-B1G safety. On offense we have an all american TE and a QB that can get a hot hand, and a RB by commitee. I guarantee you they will be worried about what we bring to the table too.

Maybe why their defense was so highly ranked. We will see. This is the kind of situation where looks can be deceiving an Iowa may score some points on them. Minnesota and Wisconsin have already represented well in bowl games so maybe Iowa comes in pretty tested.

Mississippi State is an SEC team. They believe they will pound us into oblivion...ala Florida and Tennessee of recent memory. Until we prove them different...I would tend to agree. I'm in the camp that we haven't been well prepared and ready to play, especially on the offensive line, in those match-ups. With the fact that MSU's defense is strong on the defensive line...that doesn't bode well. I hope I'm wrong...but if you are looking at recent history...I'm not sure how you can draw any other conclusion.

Brian is undefeated in bowl games as OC. Their OC is winless in bowl games, but did go 1-11 as an ass't under PJ Fleck.

Our OLine couldn’t handle the delayed blitz vs Stanford, and hasn’t been able to handle it since. Moorehead knows that, too.

They have a big advantage because Moorehead knows our scheme and personnel better than we know theirs.

I am hopeful PP can scheme his defense to stop their running attack the way Norm did vs Georgia Tech. If we stop their run game and make them 1 dimensional, I like our chances.

Finally, we have to take care of the ball. ISU outplayed Wazzu on the field, but 3 turnovers and a missed FG doomed them.

I think it will be a close game. We haven’t fared well in those this year, but I am hoping this time is different.

We need to be stout in all 3 phases of the game. I believe we have the edge in return game. If we can force a few turnovers and get great field position we have a chance. If we can get ahead of them by a couple of scores and force them to throw and play from behind we can win this. But if we let them run and eat up clock, it will be a long day. They will show 10 men in the box at times, but drop back in coverage. We need to do what Alabama did to them, 3 step drops and throw quick slants. Throw to RB’s coming out of the backfield.
