Schwartz: Ranking The Value Of Iowa’s Regular-Season Games

I find it hard to have any passion for this list.

You can break into different categories I guess.

Non-conference games against non-power conferences
12. UNI
11. NIU

Conference games against cross- division opponents
10. MD
9. INDY
8. PSU

Division games, non-rivals
7. ILL
6. Purdue
5. Neb

rival games
4. Minn
3. ISU
2. NW
1. Wisc

It's sad that Illinois has developed into a non rival.

That used to be one of the most intense rivals we had. And that was before Bruce Pearl-Deon Thomas.

Iowa gets many of their players from Illinois. Many of our students come from the Chicago area. That should be a rival.

Alas, football Saturdays in Champaign are almost an afterthought. Right up there with cleaning the hog confinement sheds. Or whatever is produced just to the south of Memorial Stadium.

It’s not our fault they suck shit so bad.

I don’t want a lopsided rivalry like the joke ISU game.

Unless it’s nebraska.

Two most important.
1. ISU. ISU wins and tgey gain traction for players Iowa wants. ISU is starting to pop up in state of Illinois recruiting.

Illinois.. are recruiting at Iowa level. Maybe lost a lineman. They are as good as or better at quite a few positions. They are terrible at a few. A win gives them traction.

Yawn.....................

Pathetic!!! With this weak a$$ schedule the only talk going on in Iowa City should be who are we going to play in the East Division for the B1G title BUT HELL NO!!! We are talking about our pathetic football program just making to some weak a$$ bowl against a power house like Boston College. The Iowa fan base and administration needs some viagra. Just can’t get it up anymore. It being the true spirit of competition and expectations. Excuse me while I go vomit!!!

Interesting how quick Penn State bounced back from NCAA sanctions after they got rid of their conservative ball controlling no risk on offense coach (Kirks identical twin brother) Joe P.

Don’t get mad at me at least I have some fire in my belly!!! What’s in your belly as a college football fan????

Here the last week or two I have honestly tried to be a little more positive about the football program and then I read this article about Iowa’s pathetic schedule and can’t help but put down my IPad and walk away just shaking my head. Go Kirk Go squeak out another 7-5 season so we can talk about your three star recruits in the off season next year and again hope for a 7-5 again and again and again............................. sigh. :(

I know right? I’ve followed them for over fifty years and have always watched and cheered for them. It’s just hard to see people not wanting or expecting better. If the sports writer represents most of Hawkeye nation then what a sad state of affairs. Didn’t even hint that it could be a really good bowl game at the end of the season. Just a bowl game..........meh. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. If you caught one of my recent post I stated that I have a gut feeling this could be one of those years that we all live to enjoy. I am hoping that now that Brian has gotten his feet wet that during the off season he has sat down and spent some serious time on our offensive schemes and applied all of his college and pro experience to make our offense much more effective. Hey a guy can hope can’t he? It’s hard for me to just give up and concede that Iowa will never be a national contender. Fifty years that’s a damn long time.

Things are not as bad as they were before Hayden got here but I think things can be better. The defense seems pretty good and consistent. It is at a level that is good enough to get us there. It’s the damn offense that has been killing us. When you take that into consideration it really speaks well of our defense.

Had to correct that typo from “are” to “are not” I do appreciate someone not jumping all over that statement. I am sure most of you knew that was a typo as the program before Hayden got here was a total dumpster fire. Kirk is no where near that bad. I would love for Brian to get our offense humming to the point that we could be king of the hill in the West Division year in and year out. We will see what he does this upcoming season.

I admit, I was taken back a little by the Penn St game observation...…"Iowa will be lucky to be within in 10." If I recall, it came down to the last play at Kinnick this past season.

I could never put a value on our annual match up against Illinois, It is priceless, invaluable, a tradition passed from generation to generation of Hawk fans. Its what makes college football great.

I share a lot of your frustration, but that statement is a bit over the top IMO.

That “are” was suppose to be “aren’t” as bad as before Hayden got here. Donald Trump must be contagious. I just noticed that typo. I went back and corrected it and added another comment.
