Schwartz: Game of the Season is Upon Us

I just do not buy into Iowa's season dropping off the radar if they lose to Wisconsin. We have a schedule where we can expect Iowa to be evenly matched or slight favorites. I guess you can consider PSU an exception, though our history with them is pretty good. Will a loss end our shot at a West championship? Probably, but not for sure.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This was my point ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Of course the season isn’t technically over with as there are eight more games to play.. I am speaking from a perspective of winning the West and playing in the B1G championship............. and then hopefully onto even bigger things. You indirectly made my point for me. Even if they lose I will still be hoping they go 11-1. I am one of the very few on here that predicted a 10-2 season. One of those losses being to Wisconsin. After seeing BYU mash Wisconsin’s defensive line it’s giving me hope that maybe our offense can do some real damage in this game.

Unfortunately we all know what usually happens when we get our hopes up.

By the way I live just about eight miles from the BYU campus and by default (when Iowa is not playing) have followed their games this year. I am still in shock and asking where did this BYU team appear out of no where from??? Their running game is mediocre at best other than one running back who is a senior. That definitely gives me hope. As much as we have struggled on offense I would take our offense over BYU’s any day.

kids today cant handle not being told they're #1. so being "division 2" would hurt their feelings. Hence, FCS

Not true. There actually still is a Division II (and a Division III for that matter). There is also a difference between FCS (formerly called Division 1-AA) and FBS (formerly called Division 1-A) in Division I. In my opinion, FCS does it right at the end of the season with a tournament for an eventual champion.

I was just being sarcastic my friend.

The FCS (1-AA) interestingly enough started w/ a 4 game tournament in the year of their inception, doubled it to an 8 game tourney three years later and then 12 teams in the fourth year. Eight years in (1986) the went to a 16 team tournament. They have worked their way up to 24 teams now, but have the top 8 team draw a bye for the first game.

And another certain W was taken away from ISU due to the storm. That was a bit of a misleading statement by him if the intention was to characterize Iowa's opponents to date as being weak. No one felt that way before the No. Illinois or ISU games.
To update. Since this original article, No. Illinois, ISU and UNI have gone a combined 9-3. So, there you go. Not saying it was a murderer's row of non-conference games, but they are no slouches, either. ISU is a formidable team this year.
