Schematically...

Thanks. I thought we put the TE in motion quite often. We also ran that weird formation with the TE in the backfield just offset from the RB against MSU I think. Do you think our lack of variation this year had to do with personnel? Marcus is pretty much a north south runner.

This season Iowa continually used the TE motion to I Near, or I Far formations from Ace & 2x2. However they pretty much only run Iso or use the FB/TE to seal the backside for a zone play. They just don't do much that you have to defend differently.

Due to Wisconsin's multiple plays and blocking schemes on those plays that TE/FB in motion is far scarier. They have two great backs who can do different things on exactly the same play. Not to mention Wisc continually use that motion man in their passing game.

Definitely a personnel thing to some degree. Iowa does change stuff up by throwing in a lot of fold calls on occasion. Coker is at his best getting his shoulders square, accelerating, and then running through contact. He's not a multiple sharp cut guy by any means. He's a guy who can make once decisive cut as he accelerates which fits very well with a down-hill zone system.

Thanks again... I can only sit back and think about what could have been if we had signed Ball and White. I seem to remember Wisconsin's offense being a lot less dynamic when it was just Clay back there.

Yep. PJ Hill and solo Clay were some not-so-dynamic years for Bucky. 2007-08 were around 7-5 if I recall correctly.

Yep. With Dayne and Hill's freshman year being exceptions, it seems that most of Wisconsin's best seasons in the past 15 years have come with the more explosive guys like Ball, White, Calhoun, Bennett, and Davis.
