Schedulemakers screw us again

So, our next 2 games on the road are really problematic. Both teams will have an entire WEEK off before we come to town to prepare for us. On the other hand, the Hawks will have a "short turn-around" with games relatively shortly beforehand AND a 500+ mile flight to an away venue.

Off the top of my head, I know that exact same thing happened in our first meeting with Wisky. How did that turn out for us?

I am telling you - we are getting screwed, just like the football team got screwed at the end of the regular season when all of our opponents had bye weeks before they played us.

No one wants the Hawks to win more than I do. I think a lot of people are already writing off the Indiana game, but the PSU game is an absolute MUST WIN game, and we are already behind the 8-ball.

Are we better than they (PSU) are? I believe we are and I don't think it is that close. However, the odds are seriously stacked against us and it is exactly this kind of scenario where we could be down 18 -5 before we wake up and realize what a hornets nest we have found ourselves in and it may be too much to overcome.

So, that begs the question - were we ever the recipients of a similar advantage - having a full week to prepare for a team that was coming off of a short turn-around and had to come to us? Not once.

Incidentally, it wasn't an entire week, but jNW played on 2/10 before their home game against Iowa. Iowa had to play on 2/12 - 2 days less preparation and then a super-quick turnaround and go on the road for the 2/15 game. I think it is a big difference and a big advantage.

So, several bad outings on what I think many of us feel were our 2 worst performances of the year. In total, we will have had 4 of these situations by the end of the regular season go against us and ZERO come back to our benefit.

I hate that B1G schedulemaker. I really do. jNW grad, perhaps? Seriously folks, do not be surprised if we are looking like a deer in the headlights on both of these upcoming games.

I find it funny during football season everyone is always commenting on how Iowa could use the bye. The almost always look bad after them. I know I know they dont look that good before them either.

I think time off is overrated most of the time. We dont want shooters sitting for a week and Iowa will be all of these teams if they play well so what time off the other teams have dont worry me.

A week off isn't going to help PSU... All we gotta do is slow Newbill down. He's a one man band over there. If we put up 60 pts we can't lose to them they'll have a tough time scoring that much. I get what your saying I think the schedule makers could level the field off quite a bit. But the hand is what it is and I think they'll play it just fine.

Well, I have been wrong before. We shall see. I hope I am wrong on this one. I really do.

I don't believe I will be.

Also, DJ Newbill has absolutely SCORCHED the Hawks every single time. I don't think we have anyone that can match up with him. Maybe they will put Uthoff on him and play a step back to keep from getting blown by, and if he pulls up for a jumper, those long arms can bother his shot.

I don't mind it at all. In fact when your rolling and playing good ball you can't get back on the court quick enough.

Hopefully a beam doesn't magically fall down in assembly hall again...I still believe that changed our entire season...

Can't disagree with much here. The schedule has a big impact on the conference title. Not only with the week off scenario illustrated here, but also the unbalanced 'who plays who only once...and where' crap.

I wouldnt ***** about this too much unless I have seen all the other team's schedules vs their opponents time off. With teams playing almost every day and nite of the week it is TV that is screwing with schedules and it is TV MONEY that is the driver. If you like watching your hawks you better be ready for a little glitch like this is bball.

Now, I still think the scheduling in football is different because it is mostly Saturday games and there was something definitely wrong with 4 teams in 5-6 weeks all having byes before playing Iowa. But again lazy schedule makers because who is going to yell at the golden goose.

Hopefully Uthoff blocks a couple of his shots early and gets in his head.

They will be ok as they are young and can recover quickly, plus this will get them ready for the same mindset needed for the BTT and the NCAA tournament.

I actually like the way the schedule is set up.

The Hawks are on a roll right now. I expect the same to continue against PSU, possibly another big win like they did at Nebby.

Three days to prepare and face Indiana, who has to chew on losing to Northwestern for a week and with so much riding on the game? Hawks will be up. Indiana will be too, but they are the ones who had to sit for a week.

Close the season in a grudge match in Carver against the kitties with B1G tourney and NCAA tourney seeds on the line.

I just got goose bumps.

I'd prefer not to have a full week off unless there are injuries to deal with. Keeping things consistent generally keeps helps in all facets related to basketball. With social media to much time off could allow things to get into your head. Better to keep focused. As for today's game, IOWA 76-Penn State 59.

Extra time off means way more in football than basketball. A team like Iowa who is playing hot shouldn't want more than a few days between games. There's also a lot more preparation that goes into football game scouting than basketball. Not to mention the obviously greater physical toll that football takes so an extra week off for a team to get healthy is far more beneficial in football.

Yup! Everybody is out to screw the Hawks. ESPN, the BTN network, the schedule makers, the officials, etc. A bunch of whiny a$$, paranoid wimps. Grow a pair!

Hope the Iowa assistants cleared the showers first.....just sayn.
