Saw this same movie....

Huh? Whaaat? We were in the NCAA tournament last year. It takes 68 teams. The team that beat us in overtime went to the Sweet 16. Why do the idiots on this board keep downplaying the fact that we made the tournament? The negativity after ONE LOSS just takes my breath away

Don't need to rehash this... it's been overdone. I've stated my opinion on here enough about the play in games.

Because when you play a team with the same seed as you, that isn't the real NCAA tournament.

Guards shooting 5-29 and only scoring 16 pts.
The team shooting 16-54 for 27%.
Physically dominated.

I would say those make it different from just any other loss.

Agree. This felt more like the Minnesota football loss. They were dominated. Couldn't get a shot off and pushed around. Need some serious guard improvement or this will not be the year many have hoped for

Kind of had that feeling heading into halftime that we would see a different Texas team in the second half. The giant awoke and we had no answer. I liked out intensity for most of the first half, despite the atrocious shooting. We have got to have guards who can make an outside shot. That was tough to see 5 out of 20+ something from the field from our guards.

You really could feel that momentum change quickly in the second half. That is when I hoped for and looked for us to not let the game get away and not fall into the same pattern we ended last season with. I wanted to see us fight off the comeback and keep Texas at bay and secure a win. But, this was definitely a tale of 2 halves. Despite our shortcomings, have to give kudos to Texas. That is a deep and athletic team ... and a better team than Iowa. It's early. I think we will have a decent team. Time will tell if this will be a re-run of last season ...

Good lawd people. Iowa just played a Texas team that could possibly win the big 12 and make the final four. All is not lost.

Hawks will still win games. (Texas will win more.:D)

The extension was weird. I'm having little doubts that Fran's system can be that successful in high level college basketball. The running and steals are great when we're successful at it but our half court game is brutal, we seem to lack strength and our defense has a tendency to collapse.

I'd love to find a way to combine our style with some strength and girth.

To be honest, I'm not sure how much of it is a problem with the system as much as it is needing better players on the court. Watching Texas, they were just blowing right by our guys getting into the paint in the second half, and their big guys were totally dominating ours. We have some height and length, but not a lot of strength in the paint, and our guard play...

Sure, you still have to be able to coach the talent, but it all starts with recruiting IMO.

I like Fran and he's done a good job, and hope that recruiting can keep moving in the positive direction, but I think the jury is still very much out as to whether he can make Iowa more than a fringe bubble team. What is the ceiling?

All of that said, we're still just 3 games into the season, so I guess it's a little premature to have the "how far can Fran take us" discussions. If Iowa ends up in the NIT this year, then I'm going to start to question things. This is year 5, and we see coaches like Fred Hoiberg and Tim Miles take programs that were in just about as bad of shape as Iowa was when they took over, and getting them to the NCAA Tournament in year 2.

I was upset as anybody last night, watching that debacle unfold as we ****** it away yet again in the 2nd half. But after having a day to reflect on it, it's only 1 game guys. Maybe we keep seeing it as the season progresses (please gawd no), but there's a whole lot of season left. Let's hope they rebound tonight and beat a solid program in Syracuse.

LOL. Way to go out on a limb Corky. I don't know what is dumber, your avatar or your nearly 12,000 lame posts?

Lot of year left... but I certainly not comfortable with what I've seen.

Same backcourt inabilities I saw last year.
