Last year during the 1-7 stretch and again against Tennessee....nothing has changed except the guard play has gotten worse. And you know who I mean...no need to call him out....clang, clang, clang!!! Not sure why the extension was given so soon....Fran was not deserving of it....especially given all the highly touted recruits he lost at the last minute over and over and over again. This team is NOT going deep in any tourney involving top notch competition....as always, ZERO athleticism.

and weak inside. Texas is killing us on points in the paint. Too many skinny guys Fran. Start recruiting some strength and toughness.
 
Iba - Good point...they were all terrible. I am talking about the guy who hasn't made a contested layup in 2 years, and clangs the front end of every one and one off the back of the iron. The same guy who had his shoe strings tide together by a ghost at mid-court right before halftime.

I like Fran but I've not understood any of the extensions. Sure we are winning games but until we are in the actual NCAA tournament, the one that starts on Thursday.... No extensions!!

This team is identical to last year, without marble, who was arguably out best player. Long year on the way and a loss to ISU,
 
I love how often the complexities of a sport like basketball are often ignored for the annoying reasons of "this team has no athletes" or "this team doesn't try hard"

The extension was weird. I'm having little doubts that Fran's system can be that successful in high level college basketball. The running and steals are great when we're successful at it but our half court game is brutal, we seem to lack strength and our defense has a tendency to collapse.

I'd love to find a way to combine our style with some strength and girth.
 
Same ole same ole. The other team always seams to make adjustments at the half, but Fran continues to fail to make in game adjustments. Fran is almost as stubborn as Ferentz

To be fair, our major sports teams have been a depressing level of mediocre for a couple of seasons now. The greatness line is just in front of our stupid faces and we can't cross it.

True Texas is much better than Iowa right now, and some of these reactions may be a little knee jerk, but this team looks a lot like the one that imploded last season.
 
Iowas offense under fran:
1) Master the art of cherry picking.

If that doesnt werk..

2) pump fake jess settles style til you draw a foul and make 1 of 1
 
My problem is Iowa did the same thing as last year. Great first half...IMMEDIATELY cough up the lead in the second half, and then look like they are completely outmatched.

My only assumption is that they're eating donuts and drinking Code Red at halftime

If you don't understand 1 year extensions in college basketball, then you must not be paying attention? Very standard.

I'm pretty sure the extention is for recuiting purposes. It's not like his contract will break the bank if something happens.

I wouldn't have given him his prior extension either. What was the length of Fran's initial contract, 5 or 6 years? If you cant' get us into the NCAA tournament at least once in that time frame, no extension.

I still waiver on my thoughts on Fran. He's obviously improved this program. I'm excited about the upcoming recruiting class. I like the style of ball. I like him personally and enjoy his interviews probably more than any other Iowa coach.

However, he still hasn't hit my expectation. And that's to play on Thursday/Friday of the NCAA tournament.
