Davis is KOK redux; I can discern no difference in their approach to offensive "schemes"
Come on scorpio and everyone, I am seeing better pass routes, and I am especially seeing less congestion in the passing game. I could always expect KOK's offense to have multiple receivers right next to each other about 6-10 times a game.
I see Cotton, KMM, and KDavis getting open on good isolation routes.
I think GD is not calling a great game in first and goal situations. I say we win the isu game if he calls play action on the first and goal plays we had , same against UNI and CMU, too much tendency to run on first and goal situations.
+1 We still haven't realy seen anything that has been much different other than JVB paying worse than last year. Against MN they blitzed both corner about 60% of the time in the 2nd half and made it obvious yet we scored no offense points in half #2.Decent Junior High coaches can find a way to score against that. I for one am tired of hearing how JVB just needs to get comfortable with his receivers. I think Davis needs to do what he is supposedly good at and tailor the offense to what our strengths are. At this point in would be run the ball and throw off play action. Right now on third down and more than 6 are conversion rate has to be near dead last in the conference if not the country. How about a qb draw every now and then from that formation. How about running the back out in motion and throwing it to them as many other teams do, which is usually good for 5 or 6 yards and counts as a run . I have said for while now that if with Norms D and a Northwestern style offense Iowa would be a much better team, also they would have much more luck in recruiting offensive athletes. I would probably die of a heart attack if they put Garmon in the wildcat and ran dive option with Weisman. Sometimes as a coach you have to experiment a little, especially when your offense is as pathetic as ours is. For heavens sake PSU just scored 38 points. Do you think that happens if Joe Pa and his over conservative style is still there? Please KF either retire or adapt to college football in the 21st Century. Either we adapt or die right? I have defended KF for a long time, but it has to be pretty obvious to anybody following college football Iowa is losing ground to the likes of MN, IN, NW,ISU and many more. Yes we beat MN, but they beat us the previous 2 and did you honestly watch the game and say Iowa was the more athletic team. KF does one thing extrmely well, recruits offensive lineman, so he can stick to that and let the younger coaches develope a new offensive identity.

JVB is limited so the passing offense is limited. Can't get fancy with a QB who isn't executing.
