Sally Mason's Contract not Renewed

Hey John...err, I mean, Freed...I'll remind you again that you have no association with the U of Iowa, other than being a FB season ticket holder. Therefore your insane political opinions about the University and it's staff are irrelevant. Try to remember that, 'k?

I'm crying as I read this, scorp. Say it aint' so.

I'm going to buy my insurance policies from tehboat, John. Sorry, but I don't trust you. Frankly, you're so nutty it's scary.

Levin, author of “Ameritopia: The Unmaking of America,” told host Sean Hannity the country is already governed as a “soft tyranny” in all the little ways every individual’s day-to-day life is regulated.
“Let me tell you something — I have argued and I will continue to argue as Alexis de Tocqueville did. I address him in the book, too. We are in a soft tyranny right now. You may own a house, but you can’t do what you want to with the house, even if it’s reasonable. You may want a particular toilet in your house. You can’t have that toilet in your house … I’m just saying, you don’t need to flush 14 times? Same with the shower head. You can’t have the kind of automobile you want. I mean, I could go on and on and on. What’s happening is the circle of liberty, as I put it around every individual is getting tighter and tighter and tighter and tighter.”

WTF? Was I supposed to ask Uncle Sam when I got my new toilet last year?

Basically if you ever got hooked up with Ghost in the Quad's and have Rudy's and 15 minutes later you needed to eliminate it. Be gentle on the 2 ply and you may want to flush more then once, beacause the Federal guidelines restrict amount of water per flush. Now being as close as you are to Canada you could go up there and purchase one.

Barta will be next.

Multimillion dollar institutions need executives, not fundraisers.

They need to be outstanding at both.

I read this as Mason being placed on probation, not fired. Probably the right move until events unfold further.

If only we could get Mary Sue Coleman back. She was an excellent Pres. Michigan is lucky to have her.

As was Dave Skorton, who the Regents forced out for essentially no reason at all. Shameful.

Right on. Wasn't the BoR headed by that a-hole unapologetic clown fan at the time Skorton was victimized? Can't remember the guy's name.

Michael Gartner, the Ego That Ate Iowa. We lost Skorton over a personal ******* match over a minor (and well-deserved) raise, which began over Skorton's unwillingness to award a hospital contract to a buddy of Gartner's.

But here's the thing. Every man and woman on that board with him shares the blame. They could have shut him down, and didn't. They were either overly-impressed or intimidated. Either way, shameful. We are still recovering from the damage.

Sally Mason is a caretaker, not a leader you would EVER see recruited by Michigan or Cornell.

interesting. we'll have to see how this shakes out. the Regents in some states can be very chippy and petty, but i have no direct knowledge of how the Iowa board is set up.

also, i like NPR, for what it's worth. esp this american life.

the board is now comprised of pawns in a greater political game. its a fricking joke and embarrassing.
