FOOTBALL
1. Urban Meyer, Ohio State $4.3 million
2. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa, $3.835 million
3. Brady Hoke, Michigan, $3.046 million
4. Bo Pelini, Nebraska, $2.875 million
5. Bill O’Brien, Penn State, $2.3 million
6. Darrell Hazell, Purdue, $2.0 million
7. Mark Dantonio, Michigan State, $1.934 million
8. Gary Andersen, Wisconsin, $1.8 million
9. Tim Beckman, Illinois, $1.6 million
10 (tie). Kevin Wilson, Indiana, $1.26 million
10 (tie). Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern, $1.26 million
12. Jerry Kill, Minnesota, $1.2 million

Phil Parker ($325,000) and Greg Davis ($325,000) are the #9 highest paid coordinators, at their position, in the B1G. #1 OC is Nebraska and #1 DC is Michigan.
- Year in and year out, Fitz is the best bargain in the B1G.
- $4.3 million for what Urban Meyer is doing is worth it.
- $2 million for Hazell at Purdue?! Dantonio's track record is easily worth more.
- Kirk is making more than double what the Wisconsin coach is making?! Whoa!
- Despite Iowa losing to 2 of the worst Minnesota teams in history (2010 and 2011), Jerry Kill and his staff have been amazing.

BASKETBALL (contract ends)

1. Tom Izzo, Michigan State $3.72 million (2017)
2. Tom Crean, Indiana $3.16 million (2020)
3. Bo Ryan, Wisconsin $3 million (2017)
4. Thad Matta, Ohio State $2.75 million (2017)
5. Matt Painter, Purdue $2.33 million (2019)
6. Tubby Smith, Minnesota $2.22 million (2017)
7. John Beilein, Michigan $1.87 million (2016)
8. Tim Miles, Nebraska $1.77 million (2019)
9. Fran McCaffery, Iowa $1.61 million (2019)
10. John Groce, Illinois $1.4 million (2017)
11. Bill Carmody, Northwestern $950,000 (n/a)
12. Patrick Chambers, Penn State $900,000 (2016)

- The top 4 don't surprise me.
- Matt Painter had a lean year last year, but has some strong youth on his team.
- Beilein may get a new contract, if Michigan has another top 25 season.
- Always baffles me how Illinois doesn't win consistently with the Chicago (and St. Louis) pipeline.
- At least Barta didn't get taken to the cleaners on this contract, as well.

What will be funny is all the folks complaining about Kirk's salary now, then complaining when Iowa hires its next coach for under $2mil per year when he's not a 'brand name' ;)

Fran has a shot to get a bump if they realize their potential this year and make a run.

Totally agree. I thought Fran be somewhere between 5 and 8.
Beielin won't be #7 if Michigan has another good season.

The B1G is tough this year. I know Dan Dokich was talking about potential preseason first in the conference, but finishing anywhere between 1 and 5 in the conference would be realizing their potential, but it's all about March.

Do you think people would still be complaining about KF's salary if we had been winning 10 games a year like we did from 2002-04, and 2009? I don't.

I also think KF under-performing relative to his salary, and Iowa not being willing to "go for the gold" on a new hire, are two very different conversations.

There would be zero complaints on salary if we were finishing in the top 8, every year.
Albert Haynesworth got paid by the Redskins, but this was for his performance on the field with the Titans.
Most NFL players that get new contracts tend to under perform, and then tends to happen more often than not with coaches, as well.

I don't disagree, but my point is that people are complaining because KF isn't living up to his contract, not because it's "just too much money". How much Iowa spends on its next coach, whenever that time comes, is a totally different discussion, and yeah, people will probably complain if (or when) Iowa plays it cheap on its next football hire. Comparing the two is apples to oranges.
