Sagarin Ratings Half Way Through

Hawks 29th currently - have played the 34th hardest schedule in the country as of now, which is only going to climb with what is still ahead of this team. The computers are starting to like Iowa more. Win at Northwestern in 2 weeks and I think Iowa is knocking on the door of being ranked.

The Athletic--Iowa #39 (up 6) Sagarin--Iowa #29 (up 5) Massey--Iowa #23 (up 11) CFN--Iowa #45 (down 1)

I can’t imagine being a fan of a team and only enjoying bitching about them. I love talking about the Hawks during great seasons and after wins.

I enjoy it too. It seems like no one wants to talk about much today while last week it was open season on the team. I am definitely not here beating my chest over a win over IL. I am just at excited at the opportunity in front of this team after the bye week - Iowa can still have a heck of a year.

Me too. I don’t think this is some great Iowa team or anything like that. I think they could win 8 if they fix a few things and win 6 if they don’t. I just don’t wanna sit around bitching about something I view as “entertainment”. I don’t get how it is entertainment if you are just pissed off and bitter about it all the time.

It's really boring around here after a 4 TD win.

Good win, but a win over the cellar dwellar of the conference (with all due disrespect to Rutgers). I think most are in "wait and see" mode. The second half of the schedule will be defining. The bye comes at a good time...let's see what the coaching staff can do with it.

We'll be dogs for sure against tOSU and Wisconsin. 4-2 the rest of the way (8-4) would be a good season for this squad...but it could easily be 2-4 if we don't improve.

I am mostly positive and like talking the x's and o's and discussing what the coaches and players might do in certain situations. Believe me I was tired of the boring offense and always the same defense back a few years back but it is nice to see KF take more chances the last few years, have some raider package and play nickle and dime, and now the passing game is exciting as it was in 2015 and last year prior to MVB getting hurt.

The coaches have two weeks to figure out the most imperative item which is starting games fast on full throttle. I cant remember what past year it was where the hawks played only half games, maybe last year.

But this team can play really well and beat many teams if they don't get behind 14-0 like at MSU. The big thing about the Penn St game was never being behind by more that 8 points or one score.

I think when the hawks have a good lead BFerentz will not want to take his foot off the throttle.

Unfortunately, Sagarin ratings arent going to have an effect or make an impact on Iowas team this year, so this whole thread is really moot, at least pertaining to Iowa.

Except rankings are discussed on here ALL the time. It won't get them any TDs or defensive stops, but what the heck are forums for. Kirk reads these and gets ideas I bet which helps Iowa win.

Do any of the topics on Hawkeyenation have any impact on Iowa's team this year? Asking for a friend - but I'll try and keep that in mind for future posts.

No, don't get me wrong. It's a good topic to talk about and I'm not knocking the topic. I'm just saying for this year, the way it is with two losses already, unfortunately, the Sagarin ratings or any metric similar won't come into play with Iowa at the end of the year. I think they are important on those very special years where Iowa is on the edge of the playoffs or a very special bowl invite. That's all I'm saying. More bummed they won't be come into play for Iowa at the end of this year. That's all.

I do like to know where they rank, though, as schedule strength comes into play.

I was just messing back :) ... I just posted it for perspective really. The narrative on this board is Iowa has played a cupcake schedule and still is only 4-2. I think Sagarin is only gonna come into play maybe once or twice a decade for Iowa football. These types of deals work better in hoops. It is still good to let people know that Iowa is just outside of the top 25 and not some middling team at this point of the year.

I agree. For people to think Iowa is having a bad year with a cupcake schedule, they are wrong. Played Penn St. tough as well as Mich St. Mich St. seems to be back on track this year.

Crazy enough, Iowa State, Wyoming and North Texas are all 3-2 on the year. Every single one of Iowa's opponents except Illinois are over .500 on the year so far.
