As an ISU fan, I gotta say that Karras is my favorite Iowa player of all time. Sorry for the terrible news

He was a great player,but what was his deal with the University? As far as I can remember,he never came back or seemed to want to associate himself in anyway with the school that gave him his start.

Karras hated Evy, plain and simple. He quit the team twice, threw his shoes at Evy once and even got into a physical altercation with Evy. Alex, God bless him, was a prima donna before that term became en vogue. He wouldn't listen to coaches, he always put himself above the team, and once he got famous, he pretty much shunned his alma mater. He was a helluva talent....one of only 3 linemen in the history of college football to finish in the top 2 in the Heisman Trophy balloting....but he certainly had a "2 cent head".
