Ryan Boyle moves back to QB

Pretty sure existing staff member(s) will be promoted...
Here's what I think: Even KF thought the receiver corps were so depleted or ineffective he suggested Boyle switch to WR. Now that KF (and receiver's coach KOK) thinks Iowa's WRs are sufficient, Boyle goes back to QB. Boyle'd better like sitting on the bench.

Apparently, Boyle requested to be moved back to QB.

KOK is the QB coach.

So, if Boyle wants back at QB, that makes me a little nervous that Wiegers might be on his way out if he doesn't get QB1.

I figured it would be either him leaving or Cook switching positions. (maybe both) that would lead Boyle back to WR. However there might be a simpler reason for it though. Boyle had never played WR at all growing up. He gave it a go for a year after coaches asked him to and maybe he just didn't like it or get comfortable with it. Which sucks because losing that time as a QB could hurt him for possibly competing for playing time. There's no way for us to know how close Stanley, Wiegers and Boyle all might be. It'd be nice if it's a no brainer so there isn't any doubt. But when your dealing with guys that haven't taken any meaningful snaps there's just no way of knowing yet.

We've never really seen Wiegers play so there isn't enough observation on him to warrant whether we should feel nervous.
Only the fact that he is our longest tenured QB. He may or may not be QB1 material, but he was QB2 in 2015 and toolbar lot of first team snaps in practice due to CJ's injuries that year.

I would feel much better going into this fall knowing that he is QB2 because of this.

I hope it is the simpler case, but this is an internet message board which means we are supposed to assume the worst and question all motives, right?

Who just got by-passed for the backup job by a true freshman last season. Not saying he isn't any good but I don't think there's enough to get too worked up about it. That said, I do hope he stays.

Yeah there's just no way of knowing how good any of them are. Spring ball will be pretty telling. Should have some answers by the time the spring game is over how the depth chart will play out. I'd think somebody is moving on after that. Be it Wiegers or Cook is my guess. Cook might just stay and change positions hard telling but I can't see Cook staying at QB if he's 4th on the depth chart...

With Boyle moving back (and look out for him, I think he has the ability to challenge Stanley for the starting role), I'd like to see Cook move to TE or OLB, where we can use his athleticism better.

I'm with ya I like Boyles skill set. Accuracy and football aptitude has to be there though. Nice to have an athletic option at QB for sure. From what little I've seen of Cook in HS and spring game PT he just don't look like a QB to me. I'm kinda surprised he hasn't already changed positions. That said Derby was just as bull headed about it too

Plus Boyle (from what I've seen) has kind of a gunslinger attitude and a little big of swagger, which I like in a QB.

Yeah, and when Derby did actually change, he went to the NFL. Hopefully he sees the writing on the wall and makes the move soon or it might be too late.

Stanley seems to be the cool calm show no emotion type. (KFs preference no doubt) I really don't prefer one or the other so long as they play well and it doesn't affect negatively. No flags or getting teammates at each others throats because of it.

Derby may have cost himself being drafted in the 2nd round or so because of what he did. He could have been that good at it in college if he'd have started it after say his RS freshman or sophomore year even. It tells you all you need to know that he pretty much had HCC beat out in Denver as soon as he got there.
