Rutgers

I don't want Rutgers. Not the nicest place in the universe. Just my opinion. Not a great area. Small stadium.

Selfishly, I'd want a "western" big 10 school because I like to go to a lot of games. I personally want Nebraska, but Missouri would do. It kind of balances the East/West axis of the B10, and to me, it would work.

I wouldn't be upset if Rutgers joined the b10, but they're Rutgers. I know, I know, I'll catch crap for that...

Your opinion, racer. Respected. I think Mizzou might come up a little short in the academia
area. The St. Louis TV market is a plus but nothing compared to the eastern seaboard. With Rutgers you get NYC. Philly is pretty much Penn State. It's going to get mighty interesting.

Sorry, but outside of a New Jersey TV market, Rutgers brings absolutely nothing to the Big 10. I would rather stay at 11 teams than add Rutgers.

I went to high school in NJ, 30 minutes away from New Brunswick (Rutgers). There is no situation that would sell college football to East Coasters. None. NYC/NJ/Philly are all about their pro teams, and that is not going to change. Same with Pittsburgh (I was an undergrad at Pitt). In that respect it would be a waste of time and an eventual embarrassment for the Big Ten. Just because the Big Ten would get their foot in the door of the NYC market does not mean they could sell anything to them.

Mizzou is the natural and best fit, provided they can improve their academic situation a bit.

By the way, Pennhwk, I've found that Midwesterners absolutely hate the East Coast (living there; not visiting). Something about the way of life there rubs them the wrong way. I'm not making any judgments about it. However, I've known multiple Iowans and Wisconsinites that have lived on the east coast for a while, they've all hated it and always for the same reasons.

You make a compelling argument. The NYC market is enormous. Rutgers is a fine institution. My wife nearly went there.

I kinda just want the "West" Big10 for my own interests.

I personally would like Nebraska. There would be some cool games. Wisky v. Nebraska, Iowa v. Nebraska, etc.

I'd be okay with Rutgers.

I forgot one key component, racer. It came to me in the middle of the night. LOL. You see what kind of life I lead. The Giants are building that new stadium a half hour away from the Pissthatway campus. I guarantee you there will be an agreement for Rutgers and the Big Ten to use it two or three Saturdays a year. Say when OSU or PSU are in NJ. Michigan.
A helluva a lot of Alumni there.

I don't know, arch. I Lived in Rutherford in '83-84. Went to some of the football classics at Giants Stadium. Packed houses. If the right teams are in town you can expect some BIG crowds.
As far as living there, arch, I don't want to go back. I loved DC but I was there when I was single and 'sewing those wild oats'. I love it here. A much easier pace of life.

I wonder if this Outside the Lines report from ESPN regarding Rutgers' recent football spending, which doesn't shed a great light on it, will put them under the microscope even more when it comes time for them to be vetted. Because, like it or not, they are going to be looked at.

Those upgrades were definitely something that needed to be done if the Big 10 were ever to be interested in them.

Now THAT would be really cool. I was watching the Giants on TV a few months ago, and noticed that they had the new stadium "lit up" right next to it. I went to them internets and researched the new stadium, which is very cool. It would be cool to see some big games in that new stadium.

So, the fact that I research new stadiums on the interwebs should help you rest a little easier, knowing that some out there are even geekier than you.

I lived in New York and loved it. Now I live on an Iowa farm and I love it.
I know many Iowans and Wisconsins that live in New York. Some people claim that you can't pass through Williamsburg without meeting someone from Milwaukee- from my experience, it might be true. Our experiences might differ from generational differences.

But to the point... I don't think Rutgers brings any portion of the desired or oft-mentioned media market.
The tri-state area watches professional sports not college football.

I would prefer Nebraska, but I think the team to join will be Pitt.
