Rules ?-Spiking ball from shotgun

I am pretty sure this is a penalty, almost positive it is a penalty in NFL. Is it intentional grounding, lost yardage and lost down in college ball?

The reason I ask is didnt McSorley do this last week? I am almost positive.

Any answers and remembering time of game, down and distance, and where the scrimmage line was last week would be great to get from you.

Well as I said most rules I read on this say the QB has to be under center and have a hand to hand snap or maybe it is a hand on butt from hand snap.

I think they did away with that rule after the Penn St fiasco.

In the NCAA rulebook nothing mentions if the quarterback has to be under center to spike the ball legally.

So it is ok to spike the ball from the shotgun to stop the clock.

Thanks, as I said I googled it but didnt find anything definite.

Not sure why NFL is different. I guess as long as it is an immediate spike it really doesnt matter the formation.
